Macy's Rewards Details & Calculators

The Macy's Star Rewards Program is a great for anyone that spends a good amount of money on purchases at Macy's, Macy's Backstage, and online at The program features a 4-tier rewards structure in which 3 of the 4 tiers are only available to those who have the Macy's AMEX Card or Macy's Store Card. Moving up to the higher tiers in the Macy's Star Rewards program will require you to run spend through the Macy's credit cards. You'll still be able to earn Star Rewards without a Macy's credit card, but you will earn a low return and will not be able to experience the full benefits the program offers.

Macy's Star Rewards Tiers

Macy's has a 4-tier rewards program. Each tier you unlock will grant additional benefits when shopping at Macy's with the most rewarding benefit being that you'll earn more back in rewards when spending money at Macy's. If you earn Macy's Gold or Platinum status, it will be good for the remainder of the year and the entire following year. You'll need to re-qualify for Macy's Gold and Platinum status every year by meeting the required spend. The section below lists the benefits associated with each tier in the Star Rewards program.

Macy's Bronze Member

When you sign up for a Macy's Star Rewards account as a non-Macy's credit card holder, you will be given Macy's Bronze status. You'll earn the following benefits as a Bronze member:

  • 1% Back On Macy's Spend
  • Star Money Bonus Days
  • Perks & Offers
  • Birthday Surprise

Even though you'll be earning a low amount of rewards, earning 1% is better than earning 0% so I still recommend signing up for a Macy's Star Rewards account if you plan on shopping at Macy's. Plus, you'll be able to earn bonus Star Money as well as receive various perks & offers that can help save you money in the long run. If you've made at least one purchase with your Macy's account within the past 12 months, you'll receive a birthday gift too.

Macy's Silver Member

In order to become a Macy's Silver member, you'll need to own a Macy's credit card and spend at least $1 on the card annually. Macy's Silver comes with the same benefits as Macy's Bronze, but you'll also receive the following benefits:

  • 2% Back On Macy's Spend
  • Macy's Star Passes

The boost to 2% is nothing special as you can earn a 2% return using a simple 2% cash back credit card, but the Macy's Star Passes is an cardholder exclusive worth your attention. You can use Star Passes to save 25% off any day that you choose. Even if you only make a few purchases with Macy's per year, access to Star Passes can easily be worth it since Macy's credit cards have no annual fee.

If you do note live in the contiguous 48 states (Hawaii, Alaska, Guam, Puerto Rico, etc.), you will be hit with a $10 shipping surcharge on domestic orders. Just something worth noting if it applies to you.

Credit Card Rewards Calculators

Macy's has two credit cards called the Macy's AMEX Card and Macy's Card. Both cards earn between 2% and 5% when shopping at Macy's, Macy's Backstage, and The only difference between the cards is that the Macy's AMEX Card can be used wherever AMEX is accepted whereas the Macy's Card can only be used at Macy's. You can also earn bonus Star Points spending in select categories with the Macy's AMEX which can earn you Star Money a little faster. Both cards have no annual fee, so they're both worth it if you spend money at Macy's.

Online Portals +

If you want to maximize your earnings spending at, you should heavily consider using online cash back and shopping portals. How do they work? It's easy:

  1. You find the store on the online portal of your choosing
  2. Click on that portal's affiliate link for that store
  3. You'll land on the store's normal home page to shop as normal
  4. Once you make a purchase, the shopping portal will be notified
  5. You'll earn cash back (or other rewards) with that online portal

Cash back and shopping portals are free to use and makes it extremely easy to double and triple dip on your rewards. You'll still earn your Star Rewards Points shopping with Macy's, but you'll also earn either points/miles or cash back on top of those points. I've earned almost $2,000 in cash back myself and just switched over to earning rewards points instead of cash back.
