Capital One Walmart Store Card
The Capital One Walmart Rewards Store Card is a great choice for those who plan on using the card to strickly shop at Walmart. It earns cash back at the same great rates that the Capital One Walmart Rewards Mastercard does, but lacks the ability to earn cash back outside of Walmart due to not having a network. Considering that the Mastercard's only benefit is being able to redeem Walmart cash back on travel and dining at a low 2%, you're not missing much by picking up the store card.
The Capital One Walmart Store Card features five Walmart-related bonus categories. This is a store card meaning it has no network attached to it, so it can only be used at Walmart. This card will be tied to your Walmart account so I recommend creating one if you plan on picking up the card. There is no limit to the amount of cash back you can earn spending in each Walmart category and no limit to the amount of cash back you can earn with the Walmart Store Card in general. Cash back earned with the Walmart Store Card is for the life of the account. If your account is closed, you will lose any rewards you have not redeemed.
The Walmart Rewards Store Card earns 5% cash back per $1 spent shopping online at Walmart.com which is the highest return you can earn spending online with Walmart. Everything that you can usually buy in-store can be purchased online including auto, electronics, home improvement, cell phones, clothing, and just about everything else you can think of. Both the Discover IT or Chase Freedom may ocassionally feature warehouse stores as one of the rotating quarterly categories, but if you're looking for a steady return, the Walmart Rewards Store Card is what you want to consider.
5% Walmart Mobile Apps
The Walmart Rewards Store Card earns 5% cash back per $1 spent on purchases made through the Walmart Mobile App. The mobile app behaves similar to Walmart.com, but it's on the go. You can use the Walmart Mobile App to browse, search, and buy Walmart.com products as well as create shopping lists, handle prescription refills, and check prices and product availability by store. You can also find aisle locations of products that you've added to your shopping list.
2% Walmart (In-Store)
If you have to make an in-store purchase at Walmart, the Walmart Rewards Store Card will earn you 2% cash back per $1 spent. Considering this card has no annual fee, earning 2% at Walmart for in-store purchases is not bad at all. Short of using a 2% cash back credit card, it can be challenging to get a good amount of cash back shopping at Walmart due to warehouse/supply stores not being including under the 'grocery' category featured on many credit cards. This is usually the reason why store cards for warehouse-type stores like Walmart and Target is the best way to go for earning cash back.
2% Walmart and Murphy Gas Stations
The Walmart Rewards Store Card earns 2% cash back per $1 spent at Walmart and Murphy brand gas stations. You can generally earn higher cash back at gas stations with several rewards credit cards, but if you commonly pick up gas at Walmart or Murphy, this is a great card to use. Both gas stations do not always code as 'gasoline', so using a gas rewards credit card can be risky. You can usually make a small purchase at your local gas station and then check your statement to see if it codes as 'gasoline' or not.
2% Purchase of Gift Cards At Walmart
The Walmart Rewards Store Card earns 2% cash back on gift cards that are purchased at/with Walmart. This includes buying them in-store, online, and through the Walmart Mobile App. If you purchase lots of gift cards during the month/year, there are better rewards credit cards to choose from. Most big chain grocery stores and office supply stores sell gift cards. This means you can pick up cards like the Blue Cash Preferred (6% cash back grocery), AMEX Gold (4x Membership Rewards Points grocery), and Chase Ink Business Cash (5% cash back office supply stores) to achieve excellent returns on gift card purchases.
The Walmart Rewards Store Card does not have a network attached to it. This means that it cannot be used outside of the bonus categories listed above.
Perks and Benefits
The Capital One Walmart Rewards Store Card does not have any special perks or benefits that's specific to the card itself.
Sign Up Bonus
The standard sign up bonus for the Walmart Rewards Store Card is the ability to earn 5% cash back in Walmart stores for the first 12 months when you use your Capital One Walmart Rewards Card with Walmart Pay. Walmart Pay is a mobile wallet that allows you to purchase items with your phone using a stored credit, debit, or gift card. This is the same sign up bonus as the Capital One Walmart Rewards Mastercard.
Credit Card Fees
|Authorized User Fee|
|Foreign Transaction Fee|
The Capital One Walmart Store Carad has no annual fee. This means you will always earn a positive return when running spend through the card.
Authorized User Fee
There is no fee to add authorized users to the Capital One Walmart Rewards Store Card. If you have friends or family that shops at Walmart, I highly recommend adding them to the card to earn cash back faster.
Foreign Transaction Fee
The Capital One Walmart Rewards Store Card does not have a network so it cannot be used outside of shopping with Walmart, so a foreign transaction fee does not apply.
