Banana Republic Credit Card
Learn the benefits that comes with having the Banana Republic Visa Credit Card, calculate how many points you can earn based on spend, and compare!
The Banana Republic Credit Card is a great option if you're looking to earn an easy 5% return on purchases made at Banana Republic and other Gap brands. Along with giving you the best return on your shopping at Gap brands, you'll also receive exclusive cardholder benefits such as special offers, an annual birthday gift, and more. If you're spend enough to earn 5,000 points with the card, you'll be upgraded to the Banana Republic Luxe Card and receive even more benefits that can save you money at Gap brand stores.
The Banana Republic Credit Card features one bonus category which is shopping done at Gap brand stores. There is no limit to the amount of bonus points you can earn spending at Gap brand stores and no limit to the amount of points you can earn with the Banana Republic Credit Card in general. Points earned but not used towards a reward will expire 24 months after your last purchase if your account has been inactive for 24 months.
5x Gap Brands
When you use the Banana Republic Credit Card to make purchases at Gap brand stores, you will earn 5 rewards points per $1 spent. This includes purchases made in-store (U.S. & Canada Only), online, via phone, or mail at:
- Gap Maternity
- Gap Outlet
- Gap Factory Store
- Banana Republic
- Banana Republic Factory Store
- Old Navy
- Old Navy Outlet
Using your Banana Republic Credit Card at Gap brands will be equal to earning a 5% return on your purchases which is pretty good. This is the same return that all Gap credit cards will earn when used at Gap brands. If you shop at Banana Republic more than the other brands or Banana Republic is your favorite Gap brand, then this will be the card to pick up. Otherwise, you'll want to grab up the card that corresponds to the brand you shop at or like the most.
Remember that store credit cards have high interest rates. If you do not plan on paying your full statement balance every month, this card (nor any other store card) will not be for you. The interest rates of these cards will eat away your rewards faster than you can earn them.
All non-Gap brand purchases made with the Banana Republic Credit Card will earn you 1 point per $1 spent. This is a low return of 1% and is not a good return on your non-Gap brand spend. If you're looking to earn rewards that you can redeem towards Gap purchases, you would want to find a good cash back credit card. You can earn 2% using the PayPal Cashback Mastercard or Citi Double Cash and even as high as 2.5%-3% with the Alliant CashBack Visa.
Perks and Benefits
The Banana Republic Credit Card comes with a good amount of benefits that can help those that enjoy shopping at their stores.
You will receive a Birthday Gift annually as long as you have made at least one Banana Republic purchase on your Banana Republic Credit Card within the last 12 months. Your card must also be in good standing. The birthday gift will typically be a coupon that can save you some money off your next Banana Republic purchase.
Spend To Luxe Status
When you use your Banana Republic Credit Card to earn 5,000 points within the calendar year, you will earn Luxe status. Your card will be upgraded to the black Banana Republic Luxe Card and you'll receive several additional benefits such as free shipping, quarterly bonus points, and much more.
As a Banana Republic Credit Card member, you will also receive the following additional benefits:
- Special Offers & Early Access To Sales
- Bonus Points Shopping Days
- No Receipt Required For Returns
There's also various other benefits that you'll receive by email for being a card member.
Sign Up Bonus
The standard sign up bonus for the Banana Republic Credit Card is 20% off your first purchase made at Banana Republic. You'll receive a 20% off discount code once you're approved and that code can only be used online at BananaRepublic.com in the U.S. only. It will not be valid in-store or at other Gap brands. Since this discount doesn't seem to have a cap, be sure to use it when you're ready to make a large purchase at Banana Republic. The discount is only good for 90 days after account opening.
As a Banana Republic Credit Card member, you can earn an easy 1,000 points when you "Connect" with Gap. This can be done by going to the bottom of any Gap credit card details page. You'll earn 500 points when you enter your email address and 500 points when you opt to "Go Paperless" when it comes to paperless billing. It's an easy $10 rewards so I recommend signing up.
Credit Card Fees
|Authorized User Fee|
|Foreign Transaction Fee|
There is no annual fee for the Banana Republic Credit Card. This means you will always earn a positive return when you use the card for purchases. That makes this card a good investment if you enjoy shopping at Gap brands and plan on paying off your statement in full every month.
Authorized User Fee
There is no fee to add authorized users to your Banana Republic Credit Card account. If you have family or friends that shop at Banana Republic, you can add them as authorized users and build points faster.
Foreign Transaction Fee
The Banana Republic Credit Card has a 3% foreign transaction fee which makes this a bad choice for international spending and travel. I recommend using this card in the United States (including Puerto Rico) only as you do not want to eat away your rewards with unnecessary fees.
Remember that you will only earn the 5x points on Gap brands located in the U.S. and Canada. Purchases in Canada will still count as foreign transactions so you will only be earning a net 2% return.
You can use this rewards calculator to calculate how many points, miles, or cash back you can earn based on your spend per category. This calculator will also give you the dollar value of the card based on rewards earned and how much each benefit is worth to you minus the fees. You can click the Compare A Card button to compare this card against another card in the same calculator.
All category spend entered in the primary card's column will carry over to all credit card pages on the site so you don't have to re-enter the same information over again.
