Gap Visa Credit Card
Review the benefits offered by the Gap Credit Card, calculate how many Gap Rewards Points you can earn, and compare results side by side top cards.
The Gap credit card is a solid option if you're looking to earn a great return on Gap, Gap Factory, and other Gap brand purchases. On top of offering a great return, you'll earn a discount when shopping specifically at Gap or Gap Factory stores, receive access to exclusive events and discounts, and much more. Assuming you pay off your balance in full every month to avoid the high interest of store credit cards, it's a great card to have for anyone that loves shopping with Gap.
The Gap Card features one bonus category which is shopping at Gap brand stores. There's no limit to the amount of bonus points you can earn spending at Gap brand stores and no limit to how much you can earn with the card in general.
5x Gap Brands
When you use the Gap Card to make purchases at Gap brand store, you will receive 5 rewards points per $1 spent. Eligible purchases will include purchases made in-store (U.S. & Canada only), online, via phone, or mail at:
- Gap Maternity
- Gap Outlet
- Gap Factory Store
- Banana Republic
- Banana Republic Factory Store
- Old Navy
- Old Navy Outlet
When you use your Gap Card at the stores listed above, you'll be earning the same 5% return that all Gap credit cards earn on Gap purchases. Earning 5% is pretty good and nothing to turn your nose at. If you enjoy shopping at Gap, you'll want to pick up this card instead of the others due to the 10% discount you'll earn shopping specifically at Gap and Gap Factory stores. If Gap isn't your favorite out of the Gap Inc. brands, you can check the credit cards offered by Athleta, Banana Republic, or Old Navy to see if they have perks that better reward your spend habits.
All non-Gap brand purchases made on the Gap Card will earn 1 rewards point per $1 spent. This is equal to a very low 1% return. I do not recommend putting non-category spend on this card or any other Gap credit card. You'll want to grab up other credit cards that correspond with your spending habits. If you don't want a wallet full of cards, grabbing up a 2% cash back card will do the job. Cards like the Citi Double Cash and PayPal Cashback Mastercard will earn you 2% on all purchases which is double the return of the Gap Card on non-category purchases.
Perks and Benefits
The Gap Card comes with a healthy amount of benefits that's good if you're a fan of Gap and Gap brand stores.
10% Off Gap Purchases
When you use your Gap credit card in-store at Gap and Gap Factory stores in the U.S. (including Puerto Rico), you will receive a 10% discount. This offer can be combined with up to one other offer or up to three rewards in a single transaction which can save you even more. Do note that you pay for the entire purchases with the Gap credit card. You can enter code PLUS10 at checkout to receive this benefit. This benefit is only valid until 4/30/2020.
Every year you will receive a birthday gift during your birthday month. This gift will usually be in the form of a coupon that can save you some money on your next purchase with Gap. In order to receive this coupon, you must have made at least one purchase at Gap or Gap Outlet with your Gap Credit Card within the last 12 months and your account must be in good standing.
Spend To Silver Status
Earning 5,000 rewards points during the calendar you will grant you Gap Silver Status. This upgraded cardmember tier comes with several additional benefits including quarterly bonus points, the ability to choose your own sale day, free online shipping, and more. You'll also be sent a Gap Silver Visa Card to replace your standard Gap credit card (don't worry... it will have the same card number).
As a Gap credit card member, you will have access to several other benefits which includes:
- Access to special events with exclusive discounts
- Bonus point shopping days
- No receipt necessary for returns
Sign Up Bonus
The standard sign up bonus for the Gap credit card is 20% off your first Gap or Gap Factory product purchase along with free shipping to a U.S. address (Puerto Rico included). This is the same benefit that's offered on pretty much all of the Gap credit cards.
If you open a new Gap credit card account online, you'll be sent a 20% discount code in which you'll have 30 days from account opening to use. If you open it in-store, it will apply to the first purchase you make at the register if you're approved.
Credit Card Fees
|Authorized User Fee|
|Foreign Transaction Fee|
The annual fee for the Gap Credit Card is $0. This means you'll always earn a great 5% return when making purchases at Gap brand stores. Remember to pay off your statement balance IN FULL every month otherwise you'll be paying interest which will feel like an annual fee and eat away at your earned rewards.
Authorized User Fee
There is no fee to add authorized users to your Gap Credit Card. If you have family or friends that shop at Gap brand stores, adding them can help you earn more points and help you obtain Gap Silver faster.
Foreign Transaction Fee
The Gap Credit Card has a foreign transaction fee of 3%. That means you will be charged a fee when you use this card outside of the United States making this a bad card for international purchases as well as international travel. I highly recommend only using this card in the United States.
You can use this rewards calculator to calculate how many points, miles, or cash back you can earn based on your spend per category. This calculator will also give you the dollar value of the card based on rewards earned and how much each benefit is worth to you minus the fees. You can click the Compare A Card button to compare this card against another card in the same calculator.
All category spend entered in the primary card's column will carry over to all credit card pages on the site so you don't have to re-enter the same information over again.
