The Old Navy Visa Card is a solid option for anyone that enjoy shopping at Old Navy. The card offers a great return when shopping at Old Navy and other Gap brands such as Banana Republic, Athleta, and Gap. Along with offering a great return, the card offers a 10% off 60-day Welcome Shopping Pass as well as exclusive offers throughout the year. The only drawback to the Old Navy Visa is that it doesn't feature many of the long-term or annual benefits that Gap's other credit cards feature. The card only becomes more valuable once you earn 5,000 points during the calendar year and earn Navyist Status.

Bonus Categories

The Old Navy Visa Card features one bonus category and that's for spending done at Gap brand stores. There's no limit to the amount of bonus points you can earn spending at Gap store and no limit to the amount of points you can earn with the card overall.

5x Gap Brands

When you use your Old Navy Visa Card to make purchases at Gap brand store, you will earn 5 rewards points per $1 spent. Gap brand store purchases are considered to be purchases made in-store (U.S. & Canada only), online, via phone, or mail at:

  • Athleta
  • Gap
  • GapBody
  • babyGap
  • GapKids
  • Gap Maternity
  • Gap Outlet
  • Gap Factory Store
  • Banana Republic
  • Banana Republic Factory Store
  • Old Navy
  • Old Navy Outlet

Purchases at Gap brand stores with the Old Navy Visa Card will come out to being a 5% return which is what all Gap credit cards earn on these type of purchases. If you're trying to decide between a brand, it's best to grab up the co-branded card of the store you tend to shop at the most. Just note that Banana Republic and Gap credit cards tend to offer more benefits as a whole.

1x Non-Category

Non-Gap brand purchases made on the Old Navy Visa Card will earn you 1 rewards point per $1 spent which is equal to a very low 1% return. None of the Gap credit cards offer a great return on non-Gap spend and I don't recommend running such spend through their cards. You'll want to find rewards cards that offers a higher return on your everyday spend. If you're looking for easy well rounded rewards card, I recommend looking at 2% cash back credit cards such as the Citi Double Cash or PayPal CashBack Mastercard. You can use the rewards earned with those cards towards Gap purchases.

Perks and Benefits

The Old Navy Visa Card doesn't offer much in terms of long-lasting benefits, but you will receive a nice temporary welcome discount when you first receive the card. You'll also have the ability to earn Navyist status by running spend through the card.

10% Off Welcome Shopping Pass

When you're first approved for the Old Navy Visa Card, you will be given a 10% welcome shopping pass that is good for the first 60 days after account opening. While it's only a temporary benefit, it can be useful if you plan on making any large purchases at Old Navy. Consider the usefulness of this benefit and the 20% sign up bonus, I would recommend that you only apply for this card if you're ready to make a few large, worthwhile purchases with Old Navy. Otherwise you'll be wasting this benefit.

Navyist status old navy

Spend To Navyist Status

Earning 5,000 points during the calendar year with the Old Navy Visa Card will earn you Old Navy Navyist Status. This higher cardholder status will offer a bunch of useful benefits that will make being a cardholder a lot better. This includes 20% bonus points, free shipping across Gap brands, free basic alterations, and even a cool Old Navy Navyist Credit Card (card number stays the same). The easiest and most efficient way to earn 5,000 points would be to spend $1,000 at Gap brand stores during the calendar year. Once you do earn Navyist Status, you'll have to earn 5,000 points every calendar year to keep it.

Other Benefits

Outside of the Welcome Shopping Pass, you'll receive a very few other benefits from being an Old Navy Visa cardholder. Those include:

  • Exclusive offers throughout the year
  • Presale access to popular sales

In terms of rewards, the Old Navy Visa and Old Navy Store Card seems to offer the least when compared to the other 3 co-branded credit cards Gap offers.

Sign Up Bonus

The Old Navy Visa Card's standard sign up bonus is 20% off your first card purchase at an Old Navy store. If you open the card online, you'll be sent a 20% discount code good to be used on oldnavy.com. If you open the card in-store, your discount will apply at checkout. As stated previously, I recommend opening an Old Navy Visa Card when you're ready to make a large purchase as well as several other purchases to make use of this sign up bonus and the Welcome Shopping Pass.

Bonus Points

If you're already a Gap cardholder (as in have any of the Gap credit cards), you can earn an easy $10 in rewards when you 'Connect' with Gap. This option is located on the bottom of any of Gap's credit card detail pages. You'll earn 500 points when you enter your email address and another 500 points when you opt to 'Go Paperless' when it comes to your monthly billing.

Credit Card Fees

Annual Fee
Authorized User Fee
Foreign Transaction Fee

Annual Fee

The Old Navy Visa Card does not have an annual fee. You'll always earn a solid 5% return on Gap brand purchases which can make the card very useful. Just be sure to pay your statement balance in full every month otherwise you'll be swimming in interest payments which will eat away at your rewards faster than you can earn them.

Authorized User Fee

The authorized user fee for the Old Navy Visa Card is $0. If you have friends or family that shop at Old Navy, adding them can help you earn points faster and push you towards Navyist Status which offers many more benefits.

Foreign Transaction Fee

The Old Navy Visa Card has a 3% foreign transaction fee. You'll be charged that fee every time you use this card for purchases outside of the United States. Since this card doesn't really offer any great rewards for international usage (and the fact you'll be charged a fee), I recommend using this card only in the United States and only at Gap brand stores.
