Navyist Visa Credit Card
Review the benefits of the upper tier Old Navy Navyist Visa, calculate how many rewards points you can earn, and compare against top credit cards.
The Navyist Visa Card is an upgraded version of the Old Navy Visa Card. You can earn the Navyist Visa by earning 5,000 points during the calendar year using the Old Navy Visa. The easiest way to do such is by spending $1,000 at Gap brand stores. The Navyist Visa comes with additional benefits over the standard version including free shipping, bonus points, free alterations, and much more. If you shop at Gap brand stores and enjoy shopping at Old Navy specifically, you'll want to aim for earning the Navyist Visa Card.
The Navyist Visa Card features one bonus category and that's spending done at Gap brand stores. There's no limit to the amount of points you can earn spending on the card.
5x Gap Brands
When you use your Navyist Visa to pay for purchases at Gap brands, you'll earn 5 rewards points per $1 spent. Gap brands that trigger this bonus category are considered to be purchases made in-store (U.S. & Canada only), online, via phone, or mail at:
- Gap Maternity
- Gap Outlet
- Gap Factory Store
- Banana Republic
- Banana Republic Factory Store
- Old Navy
- Old Navy Outlet
Spending at the stores listed above using this card will be equal to earning a 5% return which is the standard across all Gap credit cards. When you factor in the 20% bonus you'll receive quarterly as a Navyist member, you'll actually be earning a 6% return which is fantastic. Considering that the basic Old Navy Visa doesn't offer many perks, you'll want to strive for running spend through the card to grab up Navyist status.
All non-Gap purchases made on the Navyist Visa will earn you 1 rewards point per $1 spent which is a low return of 1%. Even factoring in the 20% quarterly bonus will only get you up to a 1.2% return. I recommend picking up a 2% cash back credit card since you'll earn rewards at twice the rate. Cards like the Citi Double Cash and PayPal CashBack Mastercard.
Perks and Benefits
The Navyist Visa Card comes with a good amount of benefits that can save you some money when shopping at Gap brands.
20% Bonus Points
At the end of every calendar quarter, you will receive a 20% bonus on the points on the points you earned in that quarter. This effectively bumps up the earning rate on the card to 6% for Gap brand purchases and 1.2% for non-Gap purchases. Quarters are considered to be January-March, April-June, July-September, and October-December. So if you were to earn 1,000 points between January and March, you would earn a 200 point bonus.
Do note that Banana Republic, Gap, and Old Navy are the only brands that offer an enhanced version when you earn 5,000 points in a calendar year. Athleta does not offer any type of enhanced card.
As a Navyist member, you will receive free 3-5 day shipping when making purchases online with the following Gap brands:
- Gap Factory
- Banana Republic
- Banana Republic Factory
- Old Navy
- Hill City
Free shipping will only apply to U.S. addresses (Puerto Rico included) and you must enter promotional code NAVYIST at checkout to activate the benefit. Be sure to select the 3-5 day shipping option as selecting other options will not qualify for free shipping.
Navyist membership will grant you free basic alterations on merchandise purchased at Banana Republic in-store and online. You will not be able to return or exchange merchandise that has been altered so keep that in mind.
Along with all the main benefits listed above, you'll receive even more benefits as a Navyist Visa card member which includes:
- Exclusive offers throughout the year
- Presale access to popular sales
- Private toll-free priority line
Sign Up Bonus
The Navyist Visa cannot be applied for directly and thus does not have a sign up bonus. You'll have to obtain this card by earning 5,000 points with the Old Navy Credit Card. The standard Old Navy Credit Card sign up bonus is 20% off your first purchase at Old Navy and free shipping on that purchase.
If you're already own any of Gap's many branded credit cards, you can earn an easy $10 in rewards when you 'Connect' with Gap. This option is located on the bottom of any of Gap's credit card detail pages. You'll earn 500 points when you enter your email address and another 500 points when you opt to 'Go Paperless' when it comes to your monthly billing.
Credit Card Fees
|Authorized User Fee|
|Foreign Transaction Fee|
The Navyist Visa does not have an annual fee. This means you'll be able to earn a great 6% return on your Gap brand purchases. Just be sure to pay your statement balance in full every month otherwise you will feel the pain of interest and your hard earned rewards will be canceled out.
Authorized User Fee
There is no fee to add authorized users to the Navyist Visa. If you have family and friends that enjoy shopping at Old Navy and other Gap brands, I recommend adding them as it will help you earn more points and help you maintain Navyist status.
Foreign Transaction Fee
The Navyist Visa has a 3% foreign transaction fee. This means you'll be charged a penalty ever time you use this card outside of the United States. Considering that this card doesn't earn much outside of Gap spending, I would stick to using the card in-store or online at Gap brands. I do not recommend using this card for international travel or international spending.
