Old Navy Store Card
Review the benefits of the Old Navy Store Card, calculate how many Old Navy Rewards Points you can earn based on your spend, and compare against top cards.
The Old Navy Store Card is a decent option if you're looking to earn a great return shopping at Old Navy and other Gap brands. The plus to picking up the Old Navy Store Card will be the large amount of discounts you'll receive within the first 2 months of card membership which is the 20% sign up bonus and 10% off 60-day Welcome Shopping Pass. Outside of that, there's not much else to the card and it lacks some of the annual benefits found on other Gap credit cards. You'll find that the card becomes more valuable if you're able to earn 5,000 points during the calendar year and earn the Navyist Store Card.
The Old Navy Store Card features one bonus category which is spending at Gap brand stores. There's no limit to the amount of rewards points you can earn spending on the card.
5x Gap Brands
Using your Old Navy Store Card at Gap brand store will earn you 5 rewards points per $1 spent. Eligible Gap brand purchases will include purchases made in-store (U.S. & Canada only), online, via phone, or mail at:
- Gap Maternity
- Gap Outlet
- Gap Factory Store
- Banana Republic
- Banana Republic Factory Store
- Old Navy
- Old Navy Outlet
Earning 5 rewards point will be equal to earning a 5% return since each point is worth 1 cent. While this is indeed a great return, it is the same return you'll receive when using any of Gap's credit cards. The difference between Gap's line up of cards comes down to the perks & benefits which is what you'll want to pay closer attention to you. The co-branded card that you feel has the most long-term benefits is the card you'll want to aim for.
The Old Navy Store Card does not have a network attached to it (Visa, Mastercard, etc.) so you will not be able to use this card outside of shopping at Gap brand store. While you can use the Old Navy Visa Card to earn points outside of Gap, I do not recommend doing so since you'll only be earning a 1% return. You can earn cash back rewards twice as fast using a 2% cash back credit card like the Citi Double Cash or PayPal CashBack Mastercard.
Perks and Benefits
The Old Navy Store Card offers two benefits which consists of a temporary 60-day discount and the ability to earn a higher tiered card status called Navyist.
10% Off Welcome Shopping Pass
Once you're approved for a Old Navy Store Card, you'll receive 10% off for the first 60 days of card membership. If you plan on making a lot of purchases or at least a few large purchases, this benefit can be very valuable. Since this is a temporary benefit that goes into play on the day of account opening, I would recommend to only apply for the Old Navy Store Card if you're planning on spending a good deal of money with Old Navy.
Spend To Navyist Status
When you earn 5,000 points during a calendar year using the Old Navy Store Card, you'll be given Navyist status. Once you hit the status, you'll be issued a Navyist Store Card and you'll have access to additional benefits which includes quarterly bonus points, free alterations, and free shipping across Gap brands. You can earn 5,000 points by spending $1,000 on the card at Gap brand stores.
Outside of the Welcome Shopping Pass, you'll receive a very few other benefits from being an Old Navy Store cardholder. Those include:
- Exclusive offers throughout the year
- Presale access to popular sales
Gap's other credit cards offer more in terms of annual bonuses such as a yearly birthday bonus, bonus point shopping days, and more. I recommend reading up on the benefits offered on other Gap credit cards.
Sign Up Bonus
The Old Navy Store Card's standard sign up bonus is 20% off your first card purchase at Old Navy. If you apply for the card in-store, the 20% will be applied to your purchase at checkout. If you apply online, you'll be sent a 20% off discount code that must be used at OldNavy.com and within 30 days of account opening. This is a nice discount so I recommend applying when you plan on making a costly purchase at Old Navy.
You can earn an easy $10 in rewards when you 'Connect' with Gap as a cardholder. This option is located on the bottom of any of Gap's credit card detail pages. You'll earn 500 points when you enter your email address and another 500 points when you opt to 'Go Paperless' when it comes to your monthly billing.
Credit Card Fees
|Authorized User Fee|
|Foreign Transaction Fee|
There is no annual fee for having the Old Navy Store Card. This means you'll be raking in a nice 5% return every time you use the card. Make sure that you pay you statement balance in full every month otherwise the interest will eat away that 5% and you'll be dishing out what feels like an annual fee every month.
Authorized User Fee
There is no fee to add additional users to the Old Navy Store Card. If you have family or friends that shop at Gap brand stores, adding them will help you build points faster and thus get you closer to Navyist Status.
Foreign Transaction Fee
The Old Navy Store Card cannot be used outside of shopping at Gap brand stores, so the foreign transaction fee is not applicable.
