AAA Member Rewards Visa
The AAA Rewards Visa Card is a solid option for anyone looking to earn cash back spending on AAA Club services, travel, and several other categories.
The Bank of America AAA Rewards Visa is a great credit card for AAA members who want to earn a great return on AAA spend as well as earn rewards redeemable towards AAA products and services. If you're a Bank of America Preferred Rewards Client, you'll be able to get a 25% to 75% bonus which makes this a great choice for anyone that has money invested with Bank of America or their partners.
The AAA Member Rewards Visa features six bonus categories that earn bonus points. Those categories are AAA, travel, gas station, grocery, wholesale club, and drugstore. There's no limit to the amount of bonus points you can earn spending in these categories and no limit to the amount of points you can earn with the card overall.
Using the AAA Member Rewards Visa Card on AAA products and services through the AAA Club will earn you 3 AAA Points per $1 spent. In order to qualify as a AAA purchase, the purchase must be affiliated with a AAA Club.
Earning a 3% return on AAA products and services is great and this is one of the best credit cards (if not the best) to handles these types of purchases. If you choose to redeem your AAA Points towards an AAA voucher, you'll get a bonus 40% in value for a total return of 4.2% which is pretty fantastic.
The AAA Member Rewards Visa will earn you 3 AAA Points per $1 on travel purchases. Travel with Bank of America is considered to be purchases such as airfare, hotels, car rentals, and rideshare services.
Earning 3% on travel on a no-annual fee card is about the highest you can get. If you have money invested with Bank of America or their partners, you can earn up to 5.75% back on travel thanks to the Preferred Rewards Clients benefit.
2x Gas Station
Gas station purchases made on the AAA Member Rewards Visa will earn you 2 AAA Points per $1 spent. This applies to merchants whose primary purpose is to sell gasoline such as Exxon, Hess, BP, and Speedway.
You can earn up to 3.5% cash back in this category as a Preferred Rewards Client, but you can typically earn 4%-5% cash back with other rewards cards without investing any kind of money.
The AAA Member Rewards Visa earns 2 AAA Points per $1 on grocery spend. This applies to merchants whose primary purpose is to sell groceries such as Kroger, Winn-Dixie, Vons, and Publix.
There's lots of no-annual fee credit cards that offer around 3% cash back on grocery and some cards with annual fees that offer as high as 6% cash back. Two examples of this are the AMEX Blue Cash Everyday (3%, no fee) and the AMEX Blue Cash Preferred (6%, $95 fee).
2x Wholesale Club
If you're looking to maximize your earnings as Wholesale Clubs, 2% is about the best you'll get in terms of a consistent return. Wholesale Clubs are sometimes featured as one of the rotating quarterly category on the Discover IT Card or Chase Freedom Card which can earn you a 5% (or higher) return.
Drugstore purchases on the AAA Member Rewards Visa will earn you 2 AAA Points per $1 spent. This counts for places such as CVS, Rite Aid, and Walgreens to name a few.
Drugstore is not a common category and this is a solid return for this type of spend. You can earn the same 2% cash back with the Bank of America Cash Rewards Card as well as 2% cash back across a few Amazon Credit Cards.
All non-category purchases on the AAA Member Rewards Visa Card will earn you 1 AAA Point. If you're earning AAA Points with the plan on redeeming them for AAA Vouchers, then running non-category spend though the card is the way to go.
If not, you'll want to consider other options as you'll be earning a 1% return. If you want to stick with Bank of America, you can earn a higher return of 1.5% using the no-annual fee Bank of America Travel Rewards Card which can earn you as high as a 2.625% if you're a Preferred Rewards Client. Otherwise you can pick up any 2% cash back credit card or a credit card that's great for everyday spend.
Perks and Benefits
The AAA Member Rewards Visa has one primary benefit specific to Bank of America credit cards and that's the Preferred Rewards Clients program.
Preferred Rewards Clients
When you invest a certain amount of money with Bank of America and their partners, you'll become a Preferred Rewards Client. Preferred Rewards Clients earn a bunch of benefits when dealing with Bank of America, but one of the best benefits (at least with respect to this website) is the 25% to 75% bonus points you'll earn as a client based on your tier.
|Gold||$20k to <$50k||25% Bonus|
|Platinum||$50k to <$100k||50% Bonus|
|Platinum Honors||$100k+||75% Bonus|
Your Bank of America Preferred Rewards Client tier is based on qualifying combined balances in your Bank of America banking and/or Merrill Edge® and Merrill Lynch® investing and trading accounts. Each tier requires you to meet a certain threshold of 3-month average combined balanced within your accounts. You can earn between a 25% and 75% bonus based on your tier.
If you have the money to invest, Bank of America can easily be one of the best rewards programs on the market especially if you're able to invest $100k+ to become a Platinum Honors member.
Sign Up Bonus
The standard sign up bonus for the AAA Member Rewards Visa is a $200 statement credit after making $1,000 in purchases within 90 days of account open date. This is pretty good sign up bonus for such a low spend threshold.
