Program Details

Ace Rent A Car is a privately owned U.S. rental car company based out of Indianapolis, Indiana. They have over 300 locations across 40 countries around the world which includes the Caribbean, Central and South America, UK, Europe, Asia and Australia. Their loyalty program is called Rental Genius.

Earning & Redeeming Rental Genius Points

Earning

For every $1 you spend on the base cost of a rental with Ace, you will earn 1 Rental Genius point. You will not earn points on the taxes/fees of the vehicle nor will you earn points on protection products, special equipment, and other optional items. Outside of point promotions that ACE offers occasionally, renting cars is the only way to earn Rental Genius points.

This $158 rental would earn you 106 points.

Renting the $158 economy car pictured above would only earn me 106 points. This is because 33% of the cost consists of various taxes and fees.

Redeeming

Most rental car programs allow you to build up points to earn free rentals or change your earning preference to airline miles and hotel points with your favorite loyalty program. Ace Rental Genius Awards is not like other program. All points you earn with Ace are redeemable for gift cards, electronics, and environment friendly options like Carbon Offset and 'Dedicate a Tree'. Looking at the gift cards and electronics redemptions only, the lowest redemption will cost you 1,500 Rental Genius Points while the most expensive option will cost you 10,000 Rental Genius Points.

From a spending standpoint, this means you'll need to spend $1,500 on rental car base rates with Ace in order to earn enough Rental Genius points for a $25 gift card for Apple, Google, or Starbucks. I would need to rent the economy car listed above 15 times to earn enough points for these gift cards. That would cost a total of $2,381. That type of spend with Enterprise Plus Rewards would earn you 3 free rental days and with Hertz Gold Plus Rewards at least 2 free days. But of course Enterprise and Hertz are big name car rental companies that have the revenue to offer such rewards whereas Ace Rent A Car is a lot smaller in comparison. So while Ace Rent A Car may be as good as a rental car company than others, don't expect too much out of their Rental Genius rewards program.

Credit Card Rewards Calculators

Ace Rent A Car does not offer a co-branded credit card and they do not partner with any loyalty program that can help you earn rewards with their Rental Genius Rewards program. When it comes to paying for your rental with Ace, you want to have a card that both offers primary rental insurance and gives you a good return on car rental spending.

Ace Collision Damage Waiver
Ace Rent A Car's collision damage waiver and supplemental liability insurance will cost you per day.

You can avoid the high cost of per-day rental insurance by using a credit card that offers primary rental insurance. There's a great handful of cards that offer insurance complimentary just for declining the car rental agencies insurance and paying the full cost of the rental with the card. Even the few credit cards that charge you for the primary rental insurance perk are great as you'll be charged per rental instead of the high cost-per-day that the rental agency provides.

Listed below are several of the best credit cards that offer primary rental insurance. If you commonly rent cars throughout the year and want to save on rentals while earning great rewards, you'll want to consider picking up one of these cards. You can click on any of the cards to learn about the bonus categories, perks & benefits, standard sign up bonus, and fees of the card as well as calculate how many points/miles you can earn based on your spend.

Comparison Calculators

Comparison Calculators features side by side comparisons of frequently compared credit cards or comparisons requested through our YouTube channel. These calculators are already set up so you can immediately start calculating total rewards as well as the cash value of the compared cards based on your monthly/yearly spend, how much the card benefits are worth to you, and the annual fees. Comparison Calculators does not allow you to change the designated cards being compared. If you want to compare credit cards outside of the comparisons listed below, I recommend searching for the credit card you want to compare and then using its calculator to compare it against anything featured on the site.
