WestJet Dollars (WJD) is the rewards currency for the WestJet Rewards program. They are earned when you book flights and other forms of travel through WestJet and westjet.com as well as when you book flights with select partner airlines.
They can be redeemed for face value towards flights and vacation packages booked through WestJet. They cannot be used for other forms of travel booked through WestJet such as car rentals and hotel bookings.
WestJet Dollars value
How much are WestJet Dollar worth on average? The simple answer is that they are worth face value. So 1 WestJet Dollar would be equal to 1 Canadian Dollar on average.
WestJet Dollars | Cash value |
---|---|
1 WestJet Dollar | $1 CAD |
How to calculate WestJet Dollars value
WestJet Dollars are generally worth face value, but there can be times in which your WestJet Dollars will be worth a little more than that. You can calculate WestJet Dollars Value by dividing the cash cost of your redemption by the number of WestJet Dollars required for the redemption.
WestJet Dollars Value = Cost of Redemption ÷ WJD Required To Book.
Ways to redeem WestJet Dollars
WestJet Dollars can be redeemed for flights and vacation packages. You will get the best value when redeeming them for flights, specifically Member Exclusive Fares.
Redeeming WestJet Dollars for flights
WestJet Rewards members can redeem WestJet Dollars towards any flights marketed by WestJet. This includes codeshare flights operated by:
- Aeromexico
- Air France
- Delta
- KLM
- Qantas
Flights with codeshare partners can be booked online and will appear alongside WestJet's own flights when searching on westjet.com. You can find out what destinations you can fly to from any origin city using the WestJet route map.
When booking standard economy, premium, and business class fares along with their Flex counterparts, you will be able to pay for your flight either partially or fully in WestJet Dollars. You'll need to at least redeem 15 WestJet Dollars per guest, per direction of travel.
If you choose to pay partially in WestJet Dollars, you'll still be able to earn WestJet Dollars on the portion of your base fare paid in cash or card (does not apply to Basic fare).
Member Exclusive Fare
Member Exclusive Fares allow you to redeem WestJet Dollars to save money on the cost of a flight. If you're signed into your WestJet Rewards account, you'll see the option after doing a search and selecting a fare.
When booking these fares, you'll be able to earn slightly more value out of your WestJet Dollars meaning that they will be worth a little more than 1 Canadian Dollar each.
For example, the Member Exclusive fare for the flight pictured above will cost you 164 WestJet Dollars plus $96.94 CAD saving you $20.57 off the economy price. Doing the math, this would make your WestJet Dollars worth $1.12 CAD which is better than the face value of $1 CAD each.
Be sure that when considering the Member Exclusive Fare that you run the numbers. There are times in which the savings from the fare are so low that the Basic Economy fare will beat out the "savings" from the Member Exclusive Fare.
Using WestJet Dollars for vacation packages
WestJet Dollars can be used to book vacation packages. When booking the package, you can pay partially or fully in WestJet Dollars with a minimum of 50 WestJet Dollars required.
As with flights, if you choose to pay partially in WestJet Dollars, you'll still be able to earn WestJet Dollars on the portion of your base fare paid in cash or card.
