The Blue Business® Plus Credit Card from American Express earns 2 Membership Rewards Points per $1 spent on the first $50,000 in purchases made during the year.
Points can be redeemed for 1 cent each for airfare through American Express, be transferred to AMEX's airline and hotel partners for a chance at more value, or redeemed towards a large list of other redemptions (such as gift cards or statement credits) for a lower value.
The Blue Business Plus Credit Card is a great option for any small business looking to earn rewards and it is also a great card to pair with any other Membership Rewards credit card. It is one of the best no annual fee business credit cards on the market.

Travel & Purchase Coverage
The Blue Business Plus Credit Card comes with travel and purchase insurance. This includes:
AMEX Points Value
|Redemption Option||Average Value (in cents)|
|Point transfers to airline and hotel partners||0.6 - 2|
|Booking flights through American Express Travel||1|
|Booking other travel through American Express Travel||0.7|
|Paying with points at checkout||0.7|
|Using points for card charges (statement credit)||0.6|
|Redeeming points for gift cards||0.5 - 1|
Membership Rewards Points earned with the AMEX Blue Business Plus have an average value of 1 cent when redeemed towards airfare via amextravel.com.
You can obtain higher value by transferring points to AMEX's travel partners and redeeming them for flights and hotel stays. Points can also be used for statement credits, gift cards, and Amazon.com purchases, but these will typically give your points less than 1 cent in value.
AMEX Points Transfer
Points earned with the AMEX Blue Business Plus can be transferred to 20 travel partners, with most partners being at a 1:1 ratio.
Transferring points to partners is the best use of Membership Rewards Points as you'll be able to obtain redemption values higher than the average 1 cent you can get redeeming them directly through American Express Travel.
AMEX Points Calculator
Use the Blue Business Plus Points Calculator to determine how many AMEX Points you can earn based on the monthly or yearly spending amounts you enter.
You can calculate the cash value of the Blue Business Plus alongside up to two other credit cards from any issuer.
Any spend entered into the primary card column (the first column) will carry over to all credit card calculators on the site. This means there's no need to re-enter spend when jumping to other credit card pages on the site.
Blue Business Plus Hands-On Review
I have been a Blue Business Plus Credit Card member since 2017. Once the card details came out, I knew immediately that this would be the card I use for all miscellaneous purchases that my other Membership Rewards credit cards do not cover.
That still holds true to this day. It is the best card for maximizing your earnings in the Membership Rewards Program. This is because all other Membership Rewards credit cards earn 1 point per $1 spent on non-bonus category purchases.
Why earn 1 point per $1 with the other cards when you can whip out the Blue Business Plus Credit Card and earn 2 points per $1 on the first $50,000 in spend?
There's nothing fancy or over the top about the Blue Business Plus Credit Card. It offers your standard AMEX Business Card benefits as well as the plus of being able to spend above your credit limit (though it will be due the next statement period).
There's not much else to say about the card except that it is very important for maximizing any kind of card combination with American Express Membership Rewards.
If you can't be approved for a business card or you're looking for an alternative, check out the American Express Everyday® Preferred Credit Card which can earn up to 1.5 Membership Rewards Points per $1 spent on miscellaneous purchases. It's not 2X, but it's better than 1X!
Maximize Points With Rakuten
If you frequently shop online and you're looking to earn even more Membership Rewards Points, you should heavily consider using Rakuten Rewards.
Rakuten is an online shopping portal that pays you for shopping online. Basically, they run a website full of affiliate links to different retailers and pay you, the user, some of their commission when you make an online purchase using those links.
The best thing about Rakuten is that they are partnered with American Express Membership Rewards. So instead of earning cash back on your purchases, you can opt in to earn Membership Rewards Points instead.
So if Rakuten is offering 10% cash back with a certain retailer, you'll instead earn 10X Membership Rewards Points instead. Sounds amazing, right? That's because it is.
I've been using Rakuten Rewards as my main online cash back shopping portal since the start of 2017. Once the ability to earn Membership Rewards Points became available, I never looked back.
I use the portal for all of my online purchases... from buying gifts to booking travel. Since Rakuten uses affiliate links, you're always dropped off on the retailers website. So you're not booking or buying through a third party.
For example, if I click on the Marriott affiliate link on the Rakuten website, it's going to take me to Marriott.com. I can then book my travel as normal and Marriott will notify Rakuten that I have done such. So I still get to earn my Marriott Bonvoy Points from my Marriott booking as well as earn additional Membership Rewards Points based on what Rakuten is offering for Marriott.
You can sign up for Rakuten Rewards for free through our affiliate link and earn bonus Membership Rewards Points (or cash back) on your first purchase. If you're looking to get the most out of the Membership Rewards program, you don't want to ignore this program.
If Rakuten doesn't offer an affiliate link for the retailer you're shopping with, there's many other online shopping portals available. My backup to Rakuten is usually TopCashback or TopCashback.co.uk (to earn British Airways Avios on purchases).
