The Platinum Business Card is no stranger to elite travelers. It offers top notch travel perks and benefits along with a great return on both airfare and hotels. Thanks to the 35% rebate the Platinum Business Card offers, you'll be able to easily redeem your points for a minimum value of 1.54 cents each when using the American Express Travel Portal. This is a great way to boost the value of your points earned across other Membership Rewards credit cards.

Bonus Categories

The bonus categories of the AMEX Platinum Business are almost the same as the personal version, The Platinum Card. The only difference is that the personal version allows you to purchase airfare directly from the airline to earn 5x points while the business version does not. This card's categories are tied down to purchases through the American Express travel portal.

  • 5x Airfare Booked With AMEX Travel

  • 5x Hotels Booked With AMEX Travel
    • Applies to pre-paid bookings.
    • Great for Fine Hotels & Resort and The Hotel Collection bookings.
  • 1x Non-Category

Sign Up Bonus (SUB)

The sign up bonus for the AMEX Platinum Business Card ranges between 50,000 and 75,000 Membership Reward Points, but you can also nail a 100,000-point sign up bonus sometimes as well. The AMEX Platinum Business 100,000-point offer can sometimes be triggered using incognito/private browsing or with the Card Match Tool. It can also be offered via referral links at times too.

If redeemed via the Amex Travel portal for your chosen airline, the 35% rebate perk would make your AMEX Points worth $0.0154 each. This would make a 50k-100k sign up bonus worth between $770 and $1,540 which is a pretty fantastic. It could be worth more or less depending on if you transfer them to other hotel/airline loyalty programs ($0.06 to $0.02+) or if you redeem them for other things such as gift cards ($0.007 and lower).

I recommend trying to aim for the 75,000-point or 100,000-point sign up bonus if you're going for the card since AMEX signup bonuses are basically once per lifetime.

Annual Fee

The AMEX Platinum Business annual fee is $595. This is the same price as the personal version and one of the highest annual fee cards in terms of luxury travel cards. While it does have a high pricing point, it does come with a bunch of perks which can easily make the $595 worth it. Lounge access, $400 in annual credits, complimentary hotel elite status, car rental benefits, and much more. You'll have to calculate the cash value of the card based on how much you value the benefits, but the actual cash cost of the benefits far exceeds $595.

Authorized User Fee

The Platinum Business authorized user fee is $300 for each additional Platinum Business Card which is a bit on the high side, but the positive is that all authorized users will gain the majority of the luxury benefits the card offers. This includes lounge access, hotel elite status, the purchase protection, and much more.

What you'll want to keep in mind is that it may be worth cheaper for additional cardholders to get their own card. This will depend on how easy it is to use the credits on the card. If you're a business with a bunch of employees then this may not be an option, but it's a great way for those who have the possibility to do so.

Foreign Transaction Fee

The Platinum Business Card has a 0% foreign transaction fee. This means you'll be able to make international purchases without worry about incurring a fee. The drawback is that you will not earn too much in terms of points since the only bonus categories on the card are tied to the American Express Travel Portal. While there's solid options for personal cards, the AMEX Business Cards don't work as well on international purchases.

and Card Value Calculator

You can use this rewards calculator to calculate how many points, miles, or cash back you can earn based on your spend per category. This calculator will also give you the dollar value of the card based on rewards earned and how much each benefit is worth to you minus the fees. You can click the Compare A Card button to compare this card against another card in the same calculator.

All category spend entered in the primary card's column will carry over to all credit card pages on the site so you don't have to re-enter the same information over again.
