Best For Lounge Access & Luxury Travel

The Platinum Card is one of the best credit cards on the market and one of my all-time favorite credit cards for luxury travel benefits.

The most known benefit of the card is the American Express Global Lounge Collection which grants access to American Express Centurion Lounges, Priority Pass Lounges, Delta SkyClub Lounges (when flying Delta), Airspace Lounges, and Escape Lounges.

Other benefits include up to $100 in statement credits towards Global Entry or TSA PreCheck, $200 in Uber credits, access to the Hotel Collection which grants $100 in hotel credit on stays, complimentary elite status with both Hilton and Marriott, and much more.

In terms of rewards, this card will earn you 5 Membership Rewards points on flights booked directly with the airline, flights booked through American Express Travel and on hotels booked with American Express Travel (5X earning rate applies to up to $500,000 on these purchases per calendar year). All other purchases ran across The Platinum Card will earn you 1 point per $1 spent. (Enrollments required for select benefits).

Intro Bonus: Earn 100,000 Membership Rewards® points after you spend $6,000 on purchases on the Card in your first 6 months of Card Membership.

Best For Restaurants & U.S. Supermarkets

The American Express Gold Card is known for it's exceptional return for those who love to dine out at restaurants and shop at supermarkets.

It earns 4 Membership Rewards points per $1 spent on restaurant and at U.S. supermarkets (up to $25,000 per year), 3 points per $1 spent on airfare purchases directly with the airline or through American Express Travel and 1 point per $1 spent on all other purchases.

It comes with up to $120 in annual Uber credits and up to $120 in annual dining credits with both sets of credits being split up into $10 per month (enrollment required).

Intro Bonus: Earn 60,000 Membership Rewards® points after you spend $4,000 on eligible purchases with your new Card within the first 6 months.

Best For Earning High Cash Back

If you're looking for the best cash back credit card for U.S. supermarket spend, the Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express is the one.

It earns 6% cash back on up to $6,000 in annual U.S. supermarket purchases (then 1%), 6% back on U.S. streaming services, 3% back on transit and U.S. gas station purchases, and 1% back on everything else.

If you were to max out the 6% bonus rate and spend $6,000 at U.S. supermarkets over the course of the year (that's $500 per month), you would earn a whopping $360 back in rewards.

And that doesn't even include any other spending on the card or the list of great American Express benefits it offers. Basically, it's not hard to get significant value out of the card and if you frequently shop at supermarkets in the U.S., there's no better card to have if you're looking to earn some serious cash back.

Intro Bonus: Earn a $350 statement credit after you spend $3,000 in purchases on your new Card within the first 6 months.

Best For Supermarket, Gas, and Online Retail

The Blue Cash Everyday Card is the one of the best no-annual fee credit cards in the market. It is a great alternative to the Blue Cash Preferred Card if you don't spend as much at supermarkets and gas stations in the United States, but still want to earn a great amount of cash back.

It earns 3% cash back on up to $6,000 in U.S. supermarket purchases per year (then 1%), 3% back on up to $6,000 in U.S. online retail purchases per year (then 1%), and 3% back on up to $6,000 in U.S. gas station purchases per year (then 1%). All other purchases on the card earn 1% back.

On top of that, the card offers $7 back per month after spending $13.99 or more on an eligible subscription to The Disney Bundle and up to $15 in monthly statement credits when you use the card to pay for online Home Chef purchases.

If you're trying to decide between the Blue Cash Everyday card and the Blue Cash Preferred, the U.S. supermarket category is normally going to be the deciding factor. The Blue Cash Everyday will typically be the better option if you spend less than $280 per month at U.S. supermarkets while the Blue Cash Preferred will be the better option if you spend over $280 per month.

Intro Bonus: Earn a $200 statement credit after you spend $2,000 in purchases on your new Card within the first 6 months.

On top of those great benefits, the card earns 6 Marriott Bonvoy points per $1 spent on eligible purchases at hotels participating in the Marriott Bonvoy program, 3 points per $1 spent at restaurants worldwide and on flights booked directly with airlines, and 2 points per $1 spent on all other purchases.

Best For Hilton Travelers

Hilton offers a total of three personal credit cards and the best well-rounded card in the bunch is the Hilton Honors American Express Surpass Card. It's the hands down best option if you're looking for great benefits and a superb earning rate on your spending at a standard annual fee.

The card offers complimentary Hilton Honors Gold, 10 complimentary Priority Pass visits, and the ability to spend your way to both a Weekend Night Reward and Hilton Honors Diamond status (enrollments required for select benefits).

It earns 12 Hilton Honors points per $1 spent on Hilton spend, 6 points per $1 spent on U.S. restaurant, U.S. supermarket, and U.S. gas station spend, and 3 points per $1 spent on all other purchases.

If you frequently stay at Hilton and you use this card to pay for your stays, you'll easily accumulate a significant amount of Hilton Honors Points that can more than make up for the fee.

If you don't have Hilton Gold status or Priority Pass membership, both of those benefits also adds great value to the card.

Intro Bonus: Limited Time Offer! Earn 130,000 Hilton Honors Bonus Points after you spend $2,000 in purchases on the Card in the first 3 months of Card Membership. Plus, enjoy $0 intro Annual Fee for the first year, then $95.

Best For Hilton Rewards with No Annual Fee

If you're don't stay at Hilton often, but you want to build Hilton Honors Points on your everyday spending, the Hilton Honors American Express Card will be the best option.

This no-annual fee credit card earns 7 Hilton Honors points at Hilton properties, 5 points per $1 spent on U.S. restaurant, U.S. supermarket, and U.S. gas stations, and 3 points per $1 spent on everything else.

It grants complimentary Hilton Honors Silver which grants you some bonus points on your stays and gives you access to Hilton's 5th Night Free benefit.

If you stay at Hilton once or twice a year, you can't go wrong with the no-annual fee Hilton Honors American Express Card. You'll easily be able to build up Hilton Honors points that you can redeem towards free night redemptions.

Plus, you can earn up to $100 in Statement Credits on eligible purchases made on the Card at any of the Hilton family hotels in the first 12 months of Card Membership. Offer expires 10/26/2022.

Best For Occasional Delta Flyers

The Delta SkyMiles Gold American Express Card is the best entry-level card for Delta and is very useful if you don't have Delta Medallion Status or normally have to pay for bags.

The most useful benefits of the card, in my opinion, is the First Checked Bag Free benefit which applies to you and up to 8 others traveling on the same reservation. With bags costing $30 per direction, per person, you can easily save yourself and those traveling with you hundreds of dollars per year.

In terms of rewards, the Delta SkyMiles Gold American Express Card earns 2 SkyMiles per $1 spent on Delta Airlines and restaurant purchases made worldwide and 1 SkyMile per $1 spent on all other purchases.

Intro Bonus: Earn 65,000 Bonus Miles after you spend $2,000 in purchases on your new Card in your first 6 months. Offer ends 11/9/2022.

Best For Frequent Delta Travelers

If you frequently fly Delta, you'll want to take it up a notch with the Delta SkyMiles Platinum American Express Card which features pretty much all the benefits of the Delta SkyMiles Gold American Express Card plus more.

The most popular benefit of the card is the annual Main Cabin Companion Pass you'll receive every cardmember anniversary which allows you to take a companion on a flight with you in Main Cabin for just the cost of taxes and fees. This benefit alone can easily offer more value than the annual fee.

The Delta SkyMiles Platinum American Express Card also allows you to earn Medallion Qualification Miles (MQMs) and Medallion Qualification Dollars (MQDs) waiver by running heavy spend through it during the calendar year which is great if you're trying to push your way towards Medallion Status.

For rewards, the card earns 3 SkyMiles per $1 spent on Delta purchases and purchases made directly with hotels, 2 SkyMiles per $1 spent at restaurants worldwide and at U.S. supermarkets, and 1 SkyMile per $1 spent on all other purchases.

Intro Bonus: Earn Earn 80,000 Bonus Miles after you spend $4,000 in purchases on your new Card in your first 6 months.

It earns rewards at a rate of 5 Membership Rewards points per $1 spent on airfare and hotels booked through the American Express Travel portal and 1 point per $1 spent on all other purchases. Large single purchases of $5,000 or more will earn you an additional 0.5 points on the base card earning rate, for a total of 1.5 points per $1 spent.

Best For Flexibility & Business Rewards

The American Express Business Gold Card earns an automatic 4 Membership Rewards points per $1 spent on the two select categories your business spent the most each month on up to $150,000 in spend during the calendar year. This means the card will automatically adjust to make sure you get the most out of your business spend.

In addition to an excellent return on your spend, the card also offers a 25% point rebate on airfare redemptions through American Express Travel. This puts points back into your account and thus bumps up the value of all Membership Rewards credit cards that you have if you typically redeem points for airfare through AMEX Travel.

Intro Bonus: Earn 70,000 Membership Rewards® points after you spend $10,000 on eligible purchases with the Business Gold Card within the first 3 months of Card Membership.

Best For Small Business Travel Rewards

The Blue Business Plus Credit Card is the best credit card for small businesses looking to earn rewards on everyday spend that can be put towards travel. It's also the best Membership Rewards credit card for miscellaneous purchases which is why lots of people use it as a personal credit card too.

The card earns 2 Membership Rewards points per $1 spent on the first $50,000 in purchases made during the calendar year, then 1 point per $1 spent for the remainder of the calendar year.

If you're looking to maximize the amount of points you can earn in the Membership Rewards program, you'll want to make sure to pair the Blue Business Plus credit card with other Membership Rewards credit cards.
