Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card

Best For Flexible Travel Rewards
  • Earning Rate: Earns 5X Ultimate Rewards points on travel purchases through Chase Ultimate Rewards, 3X on dining, online grocery purchases, and select streaming services, 2X on other travel purchases, and 1X on everything else.
  • Annual Credits: $50 credit towards hotels booked through Chase Ultimate Rewards portal.
  • Main Highlights: 10% bonus points annually based on how much you spent the prior cardmember year and a 25% boost to point value when redeemed for travel through Chase Ultimate Rewards.
  • Intro Bonus: Earn 60,000 bonus points after you spend $4,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening. That's $750 when you redeem through Chase Ultimate Rewards®.

  • Summary: The Chase Sapphire Preferred is one of the best flexible travel rewards credit cards available and is a fantastic choice for both beginners and experts. It earns points at an excellent rate and offers an easy way to redeem them for 1.25 cents each. You can also transfer them to a handful of partners for higher value including United, Southwest, and Hyatt.

Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express

Best Cash Back Card For Groceries
  • Earning Rate: Earns 6% cash back on up to $6,000 in U.S. supermarket purchases (then 1%), 6% back on U.S. streaming services, 3% back on transit and U.S. gas station purchases, and 1% back on all other purchases.
  • Main Highlights: The high return on U.S. supermarket purchases.
  • Intro Bonus: Earn a $250 statement credit after you spend $3,000 in purchases on your new Card within the first 6 months.
  • Annual Fee: $0 intro annual fee for the first year, then $95. (See Rates and Fees)
  • Summary: If you spend between $500 and $1,000 per month at U.S. supermarkets, the Blue Cash Preferred Card is the best card to have. Capping out the 6% multiplier on grocery will net you $360 in cash back per year which easily makes up for the fee.

The Platinum Card® from American Express

Best For Lounge Access & Luxury Travel
  • Earning Rate: Earns 5X points on airfare booked direct or through American Express Travel (on up to $500,000 of these purchases per year) and 5X points on prepaid hotel bookings through American Express Travel. All other purchases will earn you 1X.
  • Annual Credits: Up to $300 in Equinox credit, up to $240 digital entertainment credit, up to $200 airline fee credit, $200 Uber Cash (up to $15 per month and up to $35 in December), $200 in Fine Hotels + Resorts® or The Hotel Collection credit on 2 night minimum bookings, $189 CLEAR® Plus credit, $155 Walmart+ credit (up to $12.95 per month, subject to auto-renew), and up to $100 Saks Fifth Avenue credit ($50 bi-annually).

On top of that, you can add 3 additional Platinum users for $175 total and they will have their own lounge access, complimentary elite status, and Global Entry/TSA PreCheck credit (which is a steal in terms of value).
