The Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card is one of the best travel credit cards on the market and is one of Capital One's most popular credit cards. It's best known for its simple rewards program which allows you to use rewards to erase any kind of travel purchases made to the card.

The Capital One Savor Cash Rewards Credit Card is part of the Savor family and earns bonus cash back across several categories. It's a fantastic card for earning a high return across dining, entertainment, and popular streaming service purchases, but only if you plan on spending more than $800 a month collectively across these categories (otherwise the Capital One SavorOne Cash Rewards Credit Card is the better option).

Comparing Rewards

The Venture Card earns Venture Miles which is a flexible rewards currency that is best used towards travel.

The Savor Card earns cash back that can be redeemed towards just about anything that you can charge to the card.

Venture Miles

The easiest value you can obtain with Venture Miles is 1 cent per point. You'll receive this value when you use your miles towards travel purchases made to the card or through Capital One Travel.

The table below shows the average value you'll be able to get out of your miles with the Venture Card.

Venture Miles Value
Redemption Average Value Per Point
Point Transfers To Partners 1.2 to 2+ Cents
Travel via Capital One Travel 1 Cent
Statement Credits Towards Travel Purchases 1 Cent
Cash Back 0.5 Cents

The best use of Venture Miles will come from transferring them to Capital One's airline and hotel partners. This gives you the ability to earn significantly more than 1 cent per miles

Capital One Miles can be transferred to 17 partners, mostly at a 1:1 ratio.

The Point Calculator values airline miles at 1.2 to 1.5 cents on average for most basic redemptions that require little to no research. This means you can transfer your Venture Miles and easily pick up more than 1 cent in value with most of these airline partners.

You can also get higher value by research each airline's sweet spot when it comes to maximizing your rewards. Some redemptions can get you up to 2 cents or more in value, especially for upper class airfare.

For hotel rewards programs, the average value is a little lower — around 0.6 to 0.7 cents per point on average in most cases. As with airlines, many hotel programs also have sweet spots that can net you more than 1 cent in value.

For Venture Miles, you can easily get more than 1 cent in value transferring to Accor. You can transfer 2 Venture Miles to 1 Accor Point which sounds like a bad deal, but 1 Accor Point is worth 2 pence (€0.02) and that is typically worth more than 2 cents ($0.02) since the Euro hold more value than the United States Dollar.

Choice and Wyndham both have sweet spots that can net you more than 1 cent per point, but it will require some research.

Capital One Cash Back

Cash Back earned with the Savor Card can be put towards anything that you can charge to the card. Cash back rewards earned are worth face value and you can redeem your rewards no matter how much you have in your account.

If you enjoy cash-like redemptions such as cash back, statement credits (non-travel), and gift cards, earning cash back with the Savor Card will be the better option for most.

Comparing Earning Rates

The Venture Card earns Venture Miles at a flat rate across all purchases while the Savor Card earns cash back on all purchases with bonus cash back spending in select categories.

Venture vs Chase Sapphire Preferred Earning Rates
Venture Card
  • 2 Venture Miles per $1 spent on all purchases
Savor Card
  • 4% Cash Back on dining, entertainment, and popular streaming purchases
  • 3% Cash Back on grocery purchases
  • 1% Cash Back on all other purchases

At the easiest redemption level, the Venture Card earns 2% back towards travel purchases on all purchases. This is beat out by all of the bonus categories that are featured on the Savor Card.

The only time the Venture Card will be the better option is if you can get excellent value out of your Venture Miles when transferring them to partners. It it also has the chance to be a better option if you plan on spending heavy outside of the Savor Card's bonus categories.

Comparing Benefits

The Venture Card offers up to $100 towards a Global Entry or TSA PreCheck application fee, Visa Signature benefits, and standard Capital One benefits.

The Savor Card doesn't have any card benefits that are specific to the card itself and only offers your standard Capital One benefits.
