Bank of America Preferred Rewards

The Bank of America Preferred Rewards and Preferred Rewards for Business programs reward members based on their 3-month combined average daily balances across Bank of America and Merrill accounts. Your tier is determined by your total balance, with each level offering exclusive benefits, including bonus credit card rewards and discounts on loans, mortgages, and more.

Here’s a breakdown of the tiers and the corresponding bonus rewards you can earn:

Most Bank of America-branded consumer credit cards qualify for the Preferred Rewards or Preferred Rewards for Business bonus. However, co-branded airline and cruise line cards are generally excluded—except for the Bank of America Norwegian Cruise Line Mastercard, which is eligible.

Bank of America Travel Credit Cards

Bank of America offers four credit cards that earns Bank of America points that have a best value of 1 cent apiece when redeemed for travel. These points cannot be transferred to other loyalty programs like other leading travel rewards programs such as AMEX and Chase.

All Bank of American Premium Rewards and Travel Rewards credit cards are eligible for the Preferred Rewards program which will allow you to earn up to 75% more points based on qualifying Bank of America and Merrill investments.

Bank of America Cash Back Credit Cards

Bank of America offers four cash back credit cards: two personal and two business options. The Customized Cash Rewards cards (personal and business) let you choose a 3% cash back category, while the Unlimited Cash Rewards cards provide a flat-rate 1.5% cash back on all purchases.

For maximum rewards, pair the Customized Cash Rewards card with the Unlimited Cash Rewards card. This powerful two-card combo ensures you’ll earn at least 1.5% cash back on every purchase, with opportunities for even higher rewards in your selected 3% category.

All Bank of America cash back cards are eligible for the Preferred Rewards program, allowing you to boost your earnings by up to 75% based on your qualifying Bank of America and Merrill investments.

Bank of America Airline Credit Cards

Bank of America offers co-branded credit cards for several airlines, including Alaska Airlines, Allegiant, Air France-KLM, and Spirit. If you frequently fly with any of these carriers, it’s worth exploring their co-branded cards to see if the perks align with your travel needs.

These cards are not eligible for the Preferred Rewards program. You will not earn bonus miles for your qualifying investments with Bank of America and Merrill.

Other Bank of America Credit Cards

Bank of America offers co-branded credit cards for three cruise lines: Celebrity Cruises, Royal Caribbean, and Norwegian. These cards don't offer much in terms of benefits or rewards, but it doesn't hurt to have if you cruise several times per year with any of these cruise lines.

The Bank of America Norwegian Cruise Line Mastercard participates in the Preferred Rewards program which allows you to earn up to 75% more WorldPoints on your purchases. The other cruise line cards are not eligible.
