If you're a Marriott Bonvoy member, you can earn points with Marriott by booking rentals with Hertz. You can also earn complimentary top-tier status with Hertz which can grant some awesome benefits if you frequently rent with them.
Earn Marriott Points Booking Hertz Rentals
As a Marriott Bonvoy Member, you'll be able to earn points when booking rentals with Hertz either directly through Marriott's website or through Hertz.com. If you book through Hertz's website, you'll need to use the following codes when booking along with your Marriott Bonvoy account number:
- CDP# 154080
- PC# 204918
Booking rentals through Hertz will net you up to 2,000 Marriott Bonvoy Points per rental. You'll also receive special discounts off the base rate which is great if you're looking to save money on rentals.
How much can you save or earn when booking your rentals through Marriott versus through Hertz? As an example, let's look at a Friday to Sunday booking for February at Detroit Metro Airport. Listed below are the prices when booking through the Marriott website.
Class/Type | Cost | Points Earned |
---|---|---|
Compact | $206.82 | 500 Marriott Points |
Economy | $200.10 | 500 Marriott Points |
Intermediate | $202.58 | 500 Marriott Points |
All of these bookings will cost you around $200 and you'll earn a total of 500 Marriott Bonvoy Points for each booking. At a value of 0.7 cents per point, 500 Marriott Points will have a cash value of about $3.50.
Now let's look at the Hertz website without using the CDP# and PC# to see what the base rate would cost without the partnership pricing. For Hertz, you'll earn 1 point per $1 spent if you're a standard member. The table below lists the prices.
Class/Type | Cost | Points |
---|---|---|
Compact | $206.82 | 206 Hertz Points |
Economy | $200.10 | 200 Hertz Points |
Intermediate | $202.58 | 202 Hertz Points |
The prices are the exact same as what was displayed on the Marriott website. The only big difference here is that you will be earning Hertz Points instead of Marriott Bonvoy Points. Hertz Points can be worth as little as 2.5 cents per point and as much as 5 cents per point, so you're looking at about $5 to $10 in value from these bookings depending on how you redeem your points.
Another plus to booking through Hertz directly is that you can use cash back portals like Rakuten Rewards to earn additional cash back on top of your Hertz Points. So be sure to take that into consideration.
Now let's look at the prices when booking with the CDP# and PC# on the Hertz website. Again, Hertz Points are listed at the member rate of 1 point per $1 spent.
Class/Type | Cost | Points |
---|---|---|
Compact | $187.81 | 187 Hertz Points |
Economy | $183.38 | 183 Hertz Points |
Intermediate | $185.60 | 185 Hertz Points |
The codes were able to shave off $15 to $20 off the base rates of the rental. Combine those savings with the amount of Hertz Points earned and you've saved yourself a nice penny.
This is just one example and I'm sure that booking directly through Hertz will yield different results depending on the rental. You'll want to test both the Marriott Portal and Hertz website to find out which one gives you the best overall return. Just note that booking directly through hertz.com has extra earning potential due to the ability to use cash back and shopping portals when renting your cars.
Complimentary Hertz Status
If you have Titanium Elite and higher status you can receive complimentary top-tier elite status with Hertz as long as you're enrolled in the Hertz Gold Plus Rewards program. You'll then need to link your Marriott Bonvoy profile and Hertz Gold Plus Rewards profile to be eligible.
If you create a new Hertz Gold Plus Rewards account, you'll need to wait up to 48 hours before being able to link your Marriott Bonvoy account.
Based on your tier of elite status in the Marriott Bonvoy program, you'll receive the following complimentary Hertz status:
Marriott Bonvoy Status | Hertz Gold Plus Rewards Status |
---|---|
Titanium Elite Members | Five Star Status |
Ambassador Elite Members | President's Circle Status |
Elite status with Hertz comes with a good amount of benefits which is great if you frequently rent with Hertz. Some of those benefits include car-class upgrades, Hertz Fast Lane powered by CLEAR, vehicle selection, and bonus points per $1 spent on Hertz rentals.
If you don't have Titanium or higher elite status in the Marriott Bonvoy program, I still recommend signing up for a Hertz Gold Plus Rewards account. Hertz Points can be redeemed for great value, so it's worth building up rewards if you rent with Hertz at least a few times per year.
Summary
Marriott and Hertz offers some great benefits through their partnership. This includes bonus Marriott Bonvoy Points on your car rentals and complimentary status with Hertz if you have top-tier status in the Marriott Bonvoy program.
