Expedia Points Calculators

Get the details on earning points booking travel, the cash value of points based on redemptions, the Expedia credit card, and earning status with Expedia.

Program Details

Expedia is an online travel agency (OTA) that allows you to book airline tickets, hotel reservations, car rentals, cruises and vacation packages. Since Expedia is an OTA, there is a chance that you will not receive credit towards the loyalty/rewards program of the hotel or airline company you're booking through Expedia. Luckily, Expedia offers it's own Expedia Rewards Program which will give you a few extra benefits and perks when booking your travel through their portal.

Credit Card Rewards Calculators

The Expedia Rewards Credit Card Calculators will calculate how many Expedia Rewards Points you can earn based on your monthly/yearly spend across categories. Each calculator will also output the cash value of the card based on your spend, how much you value the card benefits, and annual fees.

Compare credit cards side by side based on spend, benefits and fees.

You can compare the results side by side any credit cards featured on the site to find out which earns you the most rewards and the best return. If cookies are enabled, all spend entered (primary/first column only) will carry over to all credit card calculators on the website.

U.S. Expedia Rewards Credit Card Calculators

Expedia has two credit card offered by Citibank. The Expedia Voyager Card is the better card (99% of the time) since it offers the highest earnings of Expedia Points, a $100 annual air credit which wipes out the annual fee, and the highest status of gold in the Expedia Rewards Program. The no fee Expedia Rewards Card is a great card, but it's outshined by the Voyager with very little effort which makes it not worth picking up.

Redeeming Rewards & Cash Value

Expedia Rewards Points can be redeemed for hotels, car rentals, flights, and attractions through the Expedia website. They can also be applied towards Flight+Hotel coupons and be donated to charity.

Earning Rewards

Expedia Rewards Points are earned by booking different forms of travel through the Expedia website. While you cannot technically "transfer" points to Expedia, you can apply points earned in other programs during checkout with Expedia to cover part or all of the cost.

Earning Expedia Points On Travel

Expedia Rewards Points can be earned booking hotels, flights, cruises, and car rentals through expedia.com. The amount of points you earn will depend on what you're booking.

Earning Expedia Points On Travel
Travel Type Points Earned
Hotel Bookings 2 Points Per $1
Flights 1 Point Per $5
+ Frequent Flyer Miles
Cruise 2 Points Per $1
Car Rental 2 Points Per $1
Vacation Rentals 2 Points Per $1

When booking flights through the Expedia Rewards Portal, do note that you will only earn 1 Expedia Point per $1 spent but you will also earn airline miles as long as you input the frequent flyer membership number of the airline you're booking when making your reservation.

You can also earn Expedia Rewards Points when bundling travel together. This includes:

  • Flight + Hotel + Car
  • Flight + Hotel
  • Flight + Car
  • Hotel + Car

You'll still earn the normal rate of 1 point per $5 spent on airfare and 2 points per $1 spent on other Expedia purchases.

Other Ways To Earn On Expedia.com

Expedia Points can be earned booking activities, events, and bundles.

You can earn 2 Expedia Points per $1 when booking activities through the Expedia Things To Do option. This includes museums, attractions, zoos, and more. These type of purchases will generally not have a rewards program attached to them which makes this a great way to earn a few extra points.

You can earn 2 Expedia Points per $1 when booking events through Expedia. This includes tickets for concerts, sporting events, and theater.

Using Bank Rewards Points

You can use American Express Membership Rewards Points and Citi ThankYou Rewards Points towards your purchases on Expedia.com.

AMEX Membership Rewards Points

American Express Membership Rewards Points can be used towards purchases on the Expedia website. AMEX points are worth 0.7 cents each when applied to Expedia purchases. AMEX Points are worth more than Expedia Points when booking anything outside of Expedia VIP Access hotels and you can typically earn AMEX points faster with the many Membership Rewards Points credit cards they offer.

Citi ThankYou Rewards Points

Citi ThankYou Points can be used during checkout for Expedia at a rate of 0.8 cents per point. Citi has a handful of credit cards that can help you build ThankYou Points pretty fast if you're a traveler. As with AMEX Points, Citi ThankYou Points can also be transferred to other loyalty programs.

Expedia + Cash Back Portals

Cash back portals allow you to earn cash back when shopping online at thousands of retailers including Expedia. They're easy to use and they allow you to earn additional cash back in addition to the rewards you'll already earn when booking your travel. Here's how it works:

  • Start at the cash back portal's website
  • Find Expedia and click Shop to start a new session
  • You'll be dropped off on the Expedia.com home page to book travel as normal
  • Once you make your reservation and complete it, the cash back portal will be notified
  • Cash back will be credited to your account

So you'll end up earning cash back from the portal, Expedia Rewards Points on the booking, and whatever rewards you receive with the credit card you use. That's called triple dipping on rewards.

Earn easy cash back with Rakuten!

There's many cash back portals to choose from, but my personal favorite is Rakuten Rewards. You can sign up for a Rakuten Rewards account through The Point Calculator and receive bonus cash back on your first booking with Expedia.
