Marriott Bonvoy Points can be transferred to over 30 travel partners, mostly at a 3:1 ratio meaning that every 3,000 Marriott Bonvoy points you transfer will give you 1,000 airline miles or points with the partner programs.

On top of that, every 60,000 Marriott Bonvoy points you transfer in a single transaction will net you a bonus 15,000 points which comes out to 5,000 additional airline miles. So all-in-all, a 60,000-point transfer would give you a total of 25,000 airline miles which is fantastic considering the amount of Marriott Bonvoy points you can earn staying at their hotel brands.

Do note that the 5,000 bonus miles does not apply to American Airlines, Avianca LifeMiles, Delta SkyMiles, and Korean Air SKYPASS.

Are transferring Marriott points worth it?

In my opinion, Marriott is one of the few hotel loyalty programs in which transferring points to partners will not totally devalue your points.

Thinking about it in terms of redemptions, Marriott Bonvoy Points are worth around 0.7 cents on average meaning that 3 points will be worth about 2.1 cents. An airline mile will typically be worth around 1.2 to 1.4 cents at the most basic redemptions, but there's sweet spots with many airlines that can offer you more than 2 cents per point in value.

Other hotel rewards programs usually lose significant value due to either sub-par to terrible transfer ratios (e.g. Hilton) or because the average value of the hotel points are significantly high (e.g. Hyatt).

How to transfer Marriott points

  1. Go to Marriott's Transfer Points To Miles page.
  2. Click Transfer Points. Log into your Bonvoy Account if prompted.
  3. Select the frequent flyer program and enter the frequent flyer number of that program.
  4. Enter how many points you want to transfer and click Continue.
  5. Click Convert.

The points will be deposited into the specified account and you'll be a step closer to your redemption with the frequent flyer program you transfered your points to.
