If you're short on points, you can use your Aventura Card to handle the rest. $1 is equal to 100 Aventura Points when booking your award flight.
So if you were 1,000 points shy of your redemption, you could dish out $10 to make up for the shortage. This is equal to buying Aventura Points at the rate of 1 cent each which is a solid deal if you need to top off your account.
Redeeming points for other forms of travel
Aventura Points can be redeemed for car rentals, hotels, vacation packages, and cruises for 1 cent in value. This is the next best redemption option for Aventura Points when you're not using the Aventura Airline Rewards Chart.
When possible, I recommend sticking to using Aventura points for flights as you'll lose out on a lot of value when redeeming points towards other forms of travel.
40,000 points redeemed using the Aventura Airline Rewards Chart will be worth $800 to $1,000 while redeeming 40,000 points for other forms of travel will be worth a flat $400. That's a big difference in value.
Other ways to redeem points
All other redemptions not related to travel will give your points lower than 1 cent in value (with a few exceptions) and should be avoided if possible. These redemptions include financial products through CIBC, merchandise, gift cards, and statement credits.
CIBC Financial Products
Aventura points can be redeemed towards CIBC financial rewards for a value of 0.83 cents per point. You can redeem 12,000 points for $100 towards the following financial products:
- Aventura credit card balance
- CIBC mortgage
- CIBC investments (RRSP, TFSA, or Investor's Edge portfolio)
- Line of credit (CIBC loan or personal line of credit)
Shopping with points
Aventura Points can be applied towards purchases made with your Aventura credit card. This can be done by logging into your CIBC account, going to your transaction history, and applying Aventura points to pay off the purchase fully or partially.
Aventura Points can be redeemed for gift cards starting at 3,500 points for a $25 gift card which will give your Aventura points a value of 0.71 cents each.
The gift card options are mixed in with the merchandise. The best way to show all available gift cards is by finding one gift card, clicking on it to open up the details, and then clicking on the 'Gift Card' option in breadcrumbs link at the top of the page.
|Gift card denomination||Cost in Aventura points|
The gift card denominations will vary and every denomination will not be available for every gift card listed.
Aventura points can be auctioned for trips and experiences. The value you get out of these auctions will depend on the retail value of whatever is being auctioned.
As of writing this, there hasn't been any auctions since 2020. If this redemption does come back (or is back as of you reading this), you'll want to make sure to price out the estimate cost so that you don't overbid and devalue your points.
Aventura Points can be applied towards merchandise in the CIBC Rewards portal. The value you get from the portal will heavily vary depending on the item and the retail cost.
Generally, I would avoid using Aventura Points towards merchandise as they points are primarily for travel. If you're looking to cash out on merchandise, you'll want to consider cash back credit cards.
Aventura Points can be used to pay off your credit card bill, but at a low value of 0.625 cents per point since it will cost you 4,000 points for a $25 statement. This is one of the lowest redemption values, so you'll want to try to avoid this option if possible.
