Redeeming MBNA Points For Travel
MBNA Rewards points will have the best value of 1 cent per point when redeemed for travel. This means that 10,000 points will give you $100 in credit towards travel purchases.
Travel redemptions that can booked through the site includes:
When booking travel, there are no blackout dates meaning that you can use your points towards whatever is available.
MBNA price match
The MBNA Rewards program features a Price Match Guarantee on select airfare and vacation package bookings. This means if you find a lower price, they will match it.
Eligible vacation packages must be booked with Air Canada Vacations, ALBATours, Nolitours, Signature Vacations, Sunquest Vacations, Sunwing Vacations, Transat Holidays, or WestJet Vacations. Eligible airfare must be booked with Air Canada or WestJet.
Be sure to look around and compare prices before redeeming your MBNA Rewards points (or paying cash). When booking airfare, I recommend using Google Flights to compare prices for Air Canada and WestJet.
Other ways to redeem MBNA points
MBNA Rewards points can be redeemed for cash, charity, merchandise, and gift cards. These redemptions will generally give you less than 1 cent in value.
Cash and statement credits
MBNA Rewards Points can be converted into cash and be:
- Applied to your statement as a credit
- Mailed to you in the form of a cheque
- Deposited into your chequing or savings account
- Donated to a charity
The value of your points when redeemed for cash will depend on which MBNA Rewards credit card you have.
MBNA Rewards World Elite Mastercard holders will receive the best redemption value of 120 MBNA Rewards points for $1 in cash value which is equal to 0.83 cents per point.
MBNA Rewards Platinum Plus Mastercard holders will receive a lower redemption value of 200 points for $1 in cash value which is equal to 0.4 cents per point.
The redemption value for the World Elite Mastercard isn't bad, but I would steer clear of redeeming points for cash if you hold the Platinum Plus Mastercard as you'll be getting half the value of travel redemptions.
MBNA Rewards points can be redeemed towards gift cards in the MBNA Rewards portal. This will give your points a value of 0.86 to 1 cent each.
The redemption values are not consistent across gift cards, so the exact value you get will vary, but not by much. The table below lists the range of points required based on denomination.
|Gift card denomination||Cost in MBNA Rewards points|
|$25||2,680 - 2,880|
|$50||4,965 - 5,370|
|$100||9,250 - 10,355|
Redeeming your MBNA Rewards points for gift cards is a solid alternative if you don't want to apply them towards travel. Just be sure to stick to $50 and higher denominations so that you get the most value out of your points.
MBNA Rewards Points can be redeemed in the MBNA Rewards Catalog for hundreds of different items ranging from name brand electronics to home and garden to kitchen.
The value of these redemptions will heavily vary depending on what you're going for, but the few items I tested averaged out to about 0.84 cents each. As with most merchandise redemptions, there's sure to be some that offers terrible value and some that offers high value.
When browsing merchandise, you'll want to compare the cash price (MSRP) with the cost in points to make sure you're getting solid value out of your redemption. You can use the redemption value calculator to calculate the exact value of your points.
