Aeromexico Visa Card
Calculate the total amount of Aeromexico Miles you can earn and the cash value of the Aeromexico Visa Card based on spend, benefits, and fees. Compare the results side by side against any rewards card.
The Aeromexico Visa Card is a step down from the Visa Signature Version. It offers the same solid return on several bonus categories but offers fewer perks of it's counterpart.
The Aeromexico Visa Card features the same bonus categories at the same earning rate as the Visa Signature version. It has 3 bonus categories which consist of Aeromexico airfare, gas stations, and groceries. Just like the Visa Signature version, these Aeromexico categories fall up short when it comes to earning, but it does offer great benefits specific to Aeromexico Airlines. Below is a break down of each category.
2x Aeromexico Tickets
All airfare purchases with Aeromexico using the Aeromexico Visa Card will earn 2 miles per $1 spent. This is the standard for most co-branded airline credit cards and can be better earned on other cards that transfer over to the Aeromexico Club Premier program. For instance, Membership Reward Points transfer to Premier Points (kilometers) at a rate of 1000:1600 (or 1000:1000 for Miles). The AMEX Platinum Card earns 5x on airfare which is equal to earning 5x Aeromexico Miles per $1 spent or you could use the AMEX Gold Card which earns 3x on airfare. This is way better than what this card offers. This allows you build up your Aeromexico Miles more efficiently since AMEX has 10 point earning credit cards to choose from.
2x Gas Stations
Gas station purchases will also earn 2 Aeromexico miles when the Aeromexico Visa Card is used. This is not the best return when it comes to gas station purchases, but it's the highest amount of Aeromexico Miles you can earn short of selecting gas to be the 3x bonus category for the AMEX Business Rewards Gold Card.
Of the list of bonus categories, this is probably the worst when it comes to earning miles. The Aeromexico Visa Card earns 2 miles on all grocery purchases. This can be easily beat by the AMEX Everyday Preferred Card which can earn up to 4.5x points per $1 spent which is more than double the rate of the Aeromexico Card. You would also come out ahead using any decent cash back card that focuses on grocery such as the Blue Cash Everyday which earns 3% back on grocery and the Capital One Savor Card which also earns 3% cash back.
Any purchases that does not fall within the categories above will only earn 1 Aeromexico Mile per $1 spent when you use the Aeromexico Visa Card. That is an awful rate of return that can be better earned with a cash back card or a Membership Reward Point earning card such as the Blue Business Plus Card.
Perks and Benefits
Buy 3, Get 1 Free
When buying three full fare tickets with the Aeromexico Visa Signature card, the fourth will be free (surcharges, taxes, and fees still apply). Tickets must be purchased at the same time and must depart from the United States. This perk along could save hundreds if you consistently fly as a group of four and could easily make up for the annual fee.
Aeromexico Visa Card holders will also receive a complimentary checked bag when flying Aeromexico Airlines. This is a common perk that is seen across most co-branded airline credit cards including cards from Delta, American, United, and Alaska Airlines.
Renewal Bonus & Companion Certificate
Renewal of this credit card will earn you 2,000 miles and a $99 companion certificate annually. The companion certificate is only redeemable on flights from the United States to Mexico on Aeromexico or Aeromexico connect. It is issued a few weeks after paying the annual fee.
Sign Up Bonus
The standard sign up bonus for the Aeromexico Visa Card is 10,000 Miles (16,000 Premier Points). This is easily worth $100 but can be worth as much as $400 depending on the cost of your flight and the points it takes to redeem it.
Credit Card Fees
|Authorized User Fee|
|Foreign Transaction Fee|
The annual fee for the Aeromexico Visa Card is $45. This is not a bad pricing point for the Buy 3, Get 1 Free, complimentary baggage, and complimentary certificate.
Authorized User Fee
The authorized user fee for the Aeromexico Visa Card is $0. If you're looking to add more miles to your account, I'd recommend adding family and friends as additional users.
Foreign Transaction Fee
The foreign transaction fee for the Aeromexico Visa Card is 3%. I would not recommend using this card overseas since it will eat away your rewards.
