The Marriott Bonvoy Premier Plus Business Card is a Marriott Bonvoy Point earning card offered by Chase Bank. As of February 13th, this Chase card was closed to new applicants making the American Express Marriott Bonvoy Business Card the go to business card for Marriott. The Chase Marriott Bonvoy Premier Plus Business Card closely mirrors the AMEX version with the exception of a few small changes in bonus categories. It comes with the same Marriott Elite Status, 15 nights toward acheving higher elite status, a free annual night, and more.

Bonus Categories

The Marriott Bonvoy Premier Plus Business Card features seven bonus categories that earn extra Marriott Bonvoy Points. These bonus categories consist of Marriott purchases, gas station, restaurants, shipping, internet services, phone services, and cable services. There is no limit to the amount of bonus points you can earn spending in these categories and there is no limit to the amount of points you can earn with the Marriott Bonvoy Premier Plus Business Card in general. Below are the details on these seven bonus categories.

6x Marriott Properties

The Marriott Bonvoy Premier Plus Business Card earns 6 Marriott Bonvoy Points per $1 spent at Marriott properties. This bonus can be earned paying for hotel stays and making on-site purchases that are categorized as being Marriott, SPG, or Ritz-Carlton (such as a Marriott owned coffee shop or general store). All of the Marriott Credit Cards earn 6 Marriott Bonvoy Points per $1 spent and this is highest amount of points you can get when it comes to earning these points on hotel stays. So if you're in it for the long run, you will want at least one of the Marriott Bonvoy Point earning cards in your wallet.

If you don't care about earning Marriott Elite Status which grants perks such as complimentary room upgrades, free water, late checkout, and more, you can earn a "higher return" on a few cards that focus on travel and hotels. I put higher return in quotations because a higher return on hotel points will not necessarily give you the highest return all of the time. The premium luxury American Express Business Platinum Card earns 5 Membership Rewards Points on hotels booked through their American Express Travel Portal. The return on this will vary. If you're using Membership Rewards Points to book hotels, you'll earn a 5% return (value of 1 cent each), whereas if you use Membership Rewards Points to book airline tickets, you'll earn a return of 7.7% since you will get 35% of your points back thanks to the 35% Airfare Rebate perk. I've gotten Marriott Redemptions as high as 3 to 4 cents per Marriott Bonvoy Point. That beats out the Business Platinum Card's return by a long shot. So if you're going for free award nights, I recommend sticking with any of Marriott Bonvoy Point earning cards.

4x Gas Station

Gas station purchases on the Marriott Bonvoy Premier Plus Business Card will earn 4 Marriott Bonvoy Points per $1 spent. This will consist of merchants that sell automotive gasoline that can be paid for either at the pump or inside the station, and may or may not sell other goods or services at their location. This card and the Marriott Bonvoy Business Card are the only two Marriott Bonvoy Point earning cards that earn 4 points on gas station purchases. There are no business cards that blow this earning out the water, so if you're focusing on Marriott Bonvoy Points, this is a great category to run some spend through.

4x Restaurants

Using the Marriott Bonvoy Premier Plus Business Card for restaurant purchases will earn 4 Marriott Bonvoy Points per $1 spent. These purchases must be coded as restaurant. This usually applies to merchants whose primary business is sit-down or eat-in dining, including fast food restaurants as well as fine dining establishments. Again, the only other card that earns a 4 Marriott Bonvoy Points on restaurant purchases is the Marriott Bonvoy Business Card. This is another great way to build up your Marriott Bonvoy Points on everyday purchases.

4x Shipping

The Marriott Bonvoy Premier Plus Business Card earns 4 Marriott Bonvoy Points per $1 spent on shipping purchases. Chase considers shipping as merchants that specialize in mailing packages, hauling freight, and transporting goods or documents. That includes shipping merchants such as:

  • Couriers such as FedEx, UPS, and USPS
  • Postal and Freight Shipping Companies
  • Express Shipping Services
  • Mailbox Stores

If you spend heavy in the shipping category the Marriott Bonvoy Premier Plus Business Card and the Marriott Bonvoy Business Card offer the highest amount of Marriott Bonvoy Points you can earn in this category and it's a great way to increase your balance.

4x Internet

Internet services purchased with the Marriott Bonvoy Premier Plus Business Card will net you 4 Marriott Bonvoy Points per $1 spent. These purchases must be categorized as internet service providers. This is the only Marriott Bonvoy Point earning card that earns in this bonus category. The only way to earn more points on this category is if you hold the Chase Ink Business Cash Card and at least one Ultimate Rewards Point Earning Card. The Chase Ink Business Cash Card earns 5% on Internet, Phone, and Cable purchases. Owning an Ultimate Rewards Point earning card such as the Chase Ink Business Preferred Card will enable you to earn transferable Ultimate Rewards Points instead of cash back. So spending on the Chase Business Cash Card will earn you 5 Ultimate Rewards Points that can be transferred to your Marriott Bonvoy Program at a 1-to-1 ratio. It sounds like a lot, but once you have both cards it's a simple process. If you're looking for additional ways to earn Marriott Bonvoy Points, this is a good alternative.

4x Phone

You will earn 4 Marriott Bonvoy Points per $1 spent on the Marriott Bonvoy Premier Plus Business Card for phone services. These purchases can fall under radio, cellular, wireless data, and landline services. The Marriott Bonvoy Business Card earns points specifically for wireless telephone services. When it comes to earning the most points, if you follow the method explained in the internet category above, the Chase Ink Business Cash Card will earn the equivalent of 5 Marriott Bonvoy Points for phone purchases once transferred to you Marriott Bonvoy account.

4x Cable

Cable services purchased with the Marriott Bonvoy Premier Plus Business Card will earn you 4 Marriott Bonvoy Points per $1 spent. These purchases fall under the subcategories of both cable services and satellite television. The Marriott Business Card is the only card that earns Marriott Bonvoy Points for this category, but a higher rate of 5x can be earned with the same Chase Ink Business Cash Card method explained in the internet category details. If you have a hefty cable bill, whether it be business use or personal use, the Marriott Bonvoy Premier Plus Business Card could really help pad your point balance!

2x Non-Category

Any purchases on the Marriott Bonvoy Premier Plus Business Card outside of the categories listed above will earn 2 Marriott Bonvoy Points per $1 spent. If you peg these points at 0.7 cents each, you're looking at a 1.4% return which is close to what a 1.5% cash back card would get you. If your clear focus is Marriott Bonvoy Points, putting miscellaneous spend on this card is a solid option.

Perks and Benefits

Free Night Awards

Marriott Bonvoy Premier Plus Business Card holders will receive a free night good at any Marriott property worth up to 35,000 points.
