Best Buy Rewards Points are earned by shopping in-store and online with Best Buy. These points have a value of 2 cents each and can add up very quickly for anyone that consistently shops with them. Best Buy Points can be earned at an accelerated rate by obtaining Best Buy Elite Status and using a Best Buy Credit Cards. Points can be redeemed for Best Buy certificates which are applied at checkout to lower the cost.

Signing Up For Best Buy Rewards

In order to earn Best Buy Points, you will first need to sign up for a free Best Buy Rewards account. This can be done directly through the Best Buy website. Once signed up, you will be able to earn and redeem Best Buy points. When shopping in-store, you will be need to enter the phone number tied to your Best Buy Rewards account during checkout at the register. When shopping online, you will need to make sure you're signed into your Best Buy account before checking out and paying for your order. The amount of Best Buy Points you earn will be based on your Best Buy Elite Status. You can then earn additional points on top of your Elite status by using Best Buy credit cards.

Best Buy Elite Status

When you're shopping at Best Buy, you will receive a certain amount of points per $1 spent based on your Best Buy Elite status. Best Buy Elite Status is determined based on how much you spend with Best Buy per calendar year. The more you spend with Best Buy, the more points you'll earn and the more benefits you will receive when shopping with them. Below are the details on the perks of obtaining Best Buy Elite Status.

My Best Buy Member

When you sign up for a free Best Buy Rewards account, you will become a Best Buy Member. Just signing up and becoming a Best Buy Member grants several benefits, so I recommend signing up before making any purchases. Best Buy Member status comes with the following benefits:

1% Back In Rewards

Best Buy Rewards Members will receive 0.5 Best Buy Points per $1 spent. This is an overall return of 1% cash back.

Free Shipping

Best Buy Rewards Members will receive free shipping on purchases of $35 and up. These items will be marked as such when shopping online.

Special Sales

Best Buy Rewards Members will receive access to special promotions and sales through their account that non-members will not be able to partake in.

Birthday Gift

Best Buy Rewards Members will receive a birthday gift annually. This is usually in the form of a coupon. The value of the coupon will vary depending on your Elite status and how much you spend at Best Buy.

My Best Buy Elite

The second tier of status is called My Best Buy Elite. This status is earned after making $1,500 in purchases during the calendar year. Those who earn Best Buy Elite status will hold status for the remainder of the year it was earned and the following year. My Best Buy Elite status comes with the benefits of being a member along with the following:

My Best Buy Elite members will earn 1 Best Buy Point per $1 spent at Best Buy. This is a total return of 2% cash back.

Free Shipping

My Best Buy Elite members will receive free shipping and free scheduled delivery with no minimum purchase required.

Returns & Exchanges

My Best Buy Elite members will have 30 days to make a return or exchange. Best Buy Members and non-members will have the standard 15 days.

Special Sales

My Best Buy Elite members will receive access to better/more deals than regular Best Buy members.

Point Banking

My Best Buy Elite members will be able to bank their Best Buy Points. Members will be able to set up whether or not they want their points to automatically be cashed out for a Best Buy Reward Certificate.

The highest status you can obtain with Best Buy is My Best Buy Elite Plus. This status is obtained after making $3,500 in purchases during the calendar year. Once you hit My Best Buy Elite Plus, you will have it for the remainder of the year in which it was earned and all of the following year. My Best Buy Elite Plus status comes with the benefits of My Best Buy Elite along with:

My Best Buy Elite Plus members will earn 1.25 Best Buy Points per $1 spent. This is equal to 2.5% cash back and is the highest amount of points you can earn through elite status alone with Best Buy.

Free Shipping

My Best Buy Elite Plus members will earn free 2 day shipping and free scheduled delivery when shopping with Best Buy.

Returns & Exchanges

My Best Buy Elite Plus members will have 45 days to make a return or exchange for items purchased with Best Buy. This is 30 days more than the standard policy of 15 days.

Special Sales

My Best Buy Elite Plus members will receive access to the best deals over other elite and non-members.

Best Buy Credit Cards

Best Buy features two co-branded credit cards which consists of a Citi Visa card and a store card. Both cards feature the same earning rates when spending money at Best Buy, but the Best Buy Citi Visa can be used anywhere VISA is accepted while the Best Buy Store card can only be used in-store and online at BestBuy.com. There is no limit to the amount of Best Buy points you can earn with either card. No Annual Fee

The Best Buy Credit Card is one of the best options for anyone who finds themselves spending money with Best Buy. Cardholders will earn 2.5 Best Buy Points per $1 spent on the card which is equal to 5% back in rewards. Those with My Best Buy Elite Plus status will earn an additional 0.5 point bonus for a total of 3 Best Buy Points per $1 spent which is equal to 6% back in rewards. Cardholders will also earn 1 point per $1 spent on dining and restaurant purchases (equal to 2% cash back) and have access to special financing.

Best Buy Certificates

Best Buy Points will be turned into a Best Buy Certificate once a set amount of points is reached in a Best Buy Member's account. Members will be able to set the amount of points in which they auto redeem for a certificate. Those with My Best Buy Elite or Elite Plus status will have an extra option for Point Banking. This allows members to cash out their points for a certificate when they're ready. Be aware that Best Buy Certificates expire a year after they are received so make sure to note that if and when your points are redeemed.

Members can determine how they want to use their Best Buy Points.

Once you use your points to redeem a Best Buy Certificate, you can apply that certificate at checkout. There's no limit to the amount of certificates you can use, but they cannot exceed the cost of the purchase. Do note that your certificate will be applied to the Item Subtotal before taxes and fees are added.

Rakuten will drop you off on the Best Buy website and you will make your purchase as normal. You will then earn Best Buy Points for your purchase, points from the Best Buy credit card or whatever other rewards card you use, and you will earn cash back with Rakuten. It's an easy triple dip! Rakuten has over 2,500 stores including hotels and car rental agencies for those who want to earn additional cash back on their travel too.

When you purchase items off of Best Buy's website, they prompt you to do a review of the item a few days later. Reviews will usually earn you around 25 Best Buy Points which is a value of $0.50. While that is not a ton of points, they do add up. It only takes 250 points to redeem a $5 Best Buy Certificate.
